Just put a deposit down on an R (had a deposit down on a MVII GTI but cancelled that). Should hopefully have it by early next week.
Pricing at the moment is great and after driving an R I now know that no amount of fwd diff trickery can compete with AWD!
I have the car now. What a pleasure it is. Coming from a 118TSI Golf Wagon the power difference is fantastic. For day to day fuel efficient driving though there is a lot to be said for the twin charger. The R is overly docile when off boost.
The price was great. $50k drive away for a Rising Blue, DSG and leather interior. There was also a Grey one with DSG, satnav and reverse cam for $49500 but I decided to go with the colour I preferred. Different dealers for each cars.
I was told by numerous dealers that that pricing was below cost and that they couldn't work out how they were being sold so cheap (even including the fact that there is a driveaway deal on them at the moment that covers all the onroad costs). I can only assume that the particular dealers were willing to take the loss to move the stock.
There is still quite a few new R's out there(and some demos). Options are very limited though. There are no cars at all with ACC, here in QLD there were only two with satnav and rev cam. Several cars with leather as the only option and quite a number of cars that were just stock standard. I only heard of one that had 19's, not that I wanted those.
Now's the time to buy though if you want one and are happy to live with the fact that it will be out dated by the VII. For the huge money saving I certainly am.

I always thought the distance sensors were just annoying and rarely used them.
However, saved my rear bumper today (yes SF, the multicoloured one).
