2010 build, 2011 compliance, warranty starts from registration.
MY11 started production in October-ish from memory.
Only difference really was standard bluetooth. If it is optioned with bluetooth then no drama at all.
I am looking to by an R and seem to have initially found one that meets my fussy requirements (apart from the highish K's and location): 2010 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF R DSG 4-MOTION VI MY11 Hatch Private Cars For Sale in QLD - carsales.com.au
I have been waiting for a few months for one like this to come up.
Before I contact the seller; I have a few questions about this particular one linked above I was wondering some if R aficionados could answer for me:
1) It states it as a "2010 Volkswagen Golf VI R MY11 Direct-Shift Gearbox 4-Motion".
a) Why is listed as a 2010 with it was [assumedly] first registered in Jan 2011 (I am assuming this because the dealer warranty runs out 3 years from then and the advert states it ends in Jan 2014; so assuming it was registered Jan 2011)? Could just be a CarSales/Red book error/thing?
b) How do I know this is an MY11 for sure and the seller has not made an error?
- VIN number is WVWZZZ1KZBW134718 and from Googling, it tells me that KZB is MY11 - is that definite? See (2) below too.
- The gear knob looks like it is the older style - were these knobs available MY11 or stopped in MY10? Or did the new knobs only come with MY11.5 onwards?
- What is the actual difference between an R MY10 and MY11 - I know has been covered but I have spent ages trying to find it without luck. Something about Bluetooth being different rings a bell?
- Can anyone tell me whether this is MY11 or MY10?
c) What is a good price to offer for this car - opinions? I have to get it inspected/shipped too.
On a similar note while on the topic of VINs; these other ones:
- 2010 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF R DSG 4-MOTION VI MY10 Hatch Private Cars For Sale in NSW - carsales.com.au is listed as "2010 Volkswagen Golf VI R MY10 Direct-Shift Gearbox 4-Motion" but the VIN is WVWZZZ1KZCW153296 - KZC is meant to be MY12 from reading the forums?
- 2010 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF R DSG 4-MOTION VI MY11 Hatch Private Cars For Sale in NSW - carsales.com.au is listed as "2010 Volkswagen Golf VI R MY11 Direct-Shift Gearbox 4-Motion" but the VIN is wvwzzz1kzaw303402 - KZA is meant to be MY10 right?
2) Is this VIN incorrect or is VIN number not the thing to go by for determining MY - refer to question (1b)?
Or.. I am totally confused!
Thanks for any help.

They are going to have to ensure the interior is as good to match those externals

Yes they will have to make their interior look just as shyte as the exterior but you have to remember they are experts in this field
I think they were looking over Hyundais shoulder when they designed that thing. Hopefully a production version is a little less fussy
I actually thought it was a throw to the EVO, but then again I see some Lexus in there.. maybe that is the toyota ownership slipping through

Took an R with DSG for a test drive on the weekend. The weather was terrible rain, rain and more rain. Kudos to the dealer for letting me go on such a huge run. It was a Saturday afternoon and he took us to all sorts of roads, windy hills, straights etc.
I was blown away by the traction this car has in such wet conditions. Launch control on wet road was brilliant. It took off and just gripped and gripped. Went hard around some corners on wet roads and it was if it was glued to the road. Amazing. I had put a deposit down on a VII GTI but I think that will change now. No amount of diff trickery can make up for AWD!
There is already spy videos of the VII R. Would it be likely to land here in Aus in 2014 or 2015? I've also heard you can't order an R anymore. Whatever is in stock is all that is left. Is that true?
You should try a stage 1 modded version
