Pleased to say that the Golf R was able to beat it each time - although not by much. The Golf pulled away very slowly from it. It was stock as far as i could tell, although they have 225kw and 400 odd nm from the factory with their tuned up 2.5L turbo engine and do 0-100kph in under 5 seconds.

    Good fun.
I wouldn't try with an STI on my car. I can understand why you could match him though Lucas with your modification stage.

The STI was the only other car we considered when looking at the R but it just wasnt as nice a place to be for the amount of time I spend in the car every day given the car had to be a daily driver.

We also looked at the STI, Evo 10 and XR5 as alternatives.

STI and Evo look ok from the outside, but the interior was so cheap and nasty. Our Nissan S15 that we were getting rid of was a nicer place to be.

Surprisingly i didnt mind the XR5, but couldnt bring myself to buy a Ford with a Volvo engine. They are good value though.

    Golf R Observations and Questions

I havent tested the 0-100kph since about mid way through last year (car had stage 1 tune at that time) and i got 5.6 seconds. I could have probably done a little better, but i was recording with my right hand, and shifting and steering with my left.....

The car is definetly faster now, so id like to hope could knock a few tenths off that time now.

It had to be AWD for us so there were only really two options (S3 seemed a bit pointless really). That will all change next time though with more AWD options on offer (the Merc in particular).

Understandable - a day with an S3 is what convinced me to get the R actually. I couldnt afford nor justify the cost for a new S3 anyway - so had to scrap that idea.

I dont mind the look of this new Merc AMG hatchback - but it would have to be a manual for me still.

We are revising our next purchases (forced to)

The C63 that was lined up has been sold to another buyer (SF - yes, he is a twat but he will be leaving soon anyway, thank god)

I'm actually now looking at moving the R onto the Merc and buying a Swift Sport manual as a fun car. Wife loves them (two Swifts in the family, not Sports though)

I considered the MX5 and the Toybaru but they just don't have that fun factor to them.

A year or two left in the R so time for more review yet.

    Brimmers - you have a DSG R - Lucas has a manual

Big difference (esp when you read how Lucas recorded the time)

Apologies - saw what you quoted and assumed.

    Are you stock ?

If so, yes, P3 is ****ting itself

If Stage 1, there are other DSG Stage 1's that have shown that on a P3 with LC used.
