I don't know.... my previous Oettinger/APR Stage II Golf GTI about the same as the Golf R... so to come from that, to the Polo was still very difficult! But sooooo much better than anything else Japanese at or under the Polo's price that I was looking at as my 'temp' car.

Just quietly I bought the wheels issue with the STI v EVO v R. Bit disappointed actually. A 3 door manual R with Recaros did a 14.6 quarter mile? Meh and a half. Also the article was a bit weak.

It stated that the R has 350nm torque which it doesn't. It also stated that the car was $51400 odd as tested.

Sorry but where do you get a 3dr manual golf R with at least chassis control and recaros for $51400??

And they mention the evo and sti being mega pricey in top spec, which it is true but they don't mention if you also fully option an R in top spec you'll clock $70k+++ on roads extra.

Who write this and why did I just buy the is magazine? For the pictures?

In the letter section they are also getting slammed for quoting completely wrong engine specs for a car in the issue before. 16v dohc v 8v dohc and ltrs was off too... Nice!

Check out their "speeds in gears" section.
According to Wheels a Golf R can do 111kph in second year. That's about 8500rpm......
    Try about 96kph @ 6700rpm.
The figures for the STI look spookily like what the Golf actually does.
Who the hell checks this stuff?

So last update from ~1.5wks ago said Handover to Production on 25/9 and Sales on 8/10. Today the dates have changed to 14/9 and 4/10 respectively but none of the body shop etc items are populated. Though on the "Extended Info" page, it now has a factory allocated - "11 Wolfsberg". On the same page it has the Production ID populated also now. Wk 40 Day 1, both which weren't listed about a month ago?

Can't believe how many times the dates change, no wonder they can't give us accurate timings for delivery. The factory changes like the wind!

I know what you mean dave-, i received an email yesterday saying that hopefully i should get my vin # by Oct 5th, which i guess means it's back on track again and would of been built.

Time to request another Tracking Report i guess, at this rate Dermot is going to be getting rather pissed at me keep annoying him.

UPDATE : Just had my "Extended Info" page emailed to me and mine also says Factory '11 Wolfsburg' and my Production Info is 'Week 40, Day 2'

    What Number are you dave-?

Did someone mention a while ago that VW actually use a different week schedule than us, ie we have week 40 as Oct 2nd - Oct 9th?

    Just read this WHOLE thread!

Hey all, I've just read this whole thread, and its been great to see all the possibilities and drive impressions/videos/etc of the R seeing as how I'm looking to order on winthin the next few weeks.

Only thing is, I've been quoted around $59k for 3dr Man R in white with leather, roof, MDI, Bluetooth, Satnav, which equates to about $64k on the spreadsheet. Just wondering what you guys think of this? Also been told I'd be waiting until March 11' for delivery.

Do these figures for price and delivery sound okay? Also what are APS charging for the stage 1 Tune? Love the sound of this!

    Cheers,

    Danny

    Danny,

Just ordered mine yesterday.. I got it for $56 but it was a 5 door, Sat Nav, ACC, MDI DSG - Delivery is March 11.. I dropped the leather, hard to justify.. I reckon you probably have another Grand or 2 in there because it is 3 dr manual but you are close to the money with all the options..

    Hey SliverFox,

Thanks mate! I like your spec a lot, except I'm partial to 3 doors as I love the look, and am used to them coming out of a Clio Sport. Thats a great price for your options buddy. The only thing I'd change of my spec would be to get the Dynaudio/satnav bundle, and Probably DSG (going by a lot of peoples thoughts on this forum).

Does anyone think I would get laughed out of the dealer if I asked for those on top of what I already have specced for $60k flat (well $59,900 would be ideal!!)? I'll be going there on Tuesday, and will no doubt slap an order down in a heartbeat for that.

    Danny,

My experience tells me that the dealer has given you their best price and anything you ask for now is going to be full price on top.. usually it is a " this price is for today only" and after that they seem to toy with you... I walked away from a dealership after they gave me a price and I wanted Sat Nav and they bumped it up 3.5K.. I walked into another dealership a day later told them all the options I wanted and told them the number I wanted to part with.. we then haggled over what options needed to come out to meet that price.. I dropped leather and said if he got approval from the Sales manager I would give them a deposit.. game over

The DSG is my preference because I live in Sydney and the traffic is not something you want to be stirring porridge all day for.. the test drive showed that it was smooth and very responsive.. both under load and just puttering around. I would suggest you seriously consider the ACC over the dyno audio.. the stereo is fine and the dealers I spoke to suggested it wasnt a high order item and they really couldnt tell the difference anyway. The ACC will allow you to manually adjust the suspension.. I want the comfort factor when I am not putting the boot in

I recommend if you cant get a drive away price that you think is fair then try again with another dealer.. we are at the end of the month and all dealerships will be wanting to either meet their quota targets now or trying for extra bonus points so if you are going to throw down your readies in the next few days then I think you are in a good position..
