    Soundaktor delete

It's more of a circumcision than a castration.

    Cleaner and more pure.

Simple, elegant and understated. It doesn't shout "look at me, look at me" or hide under a hood.

    I like the clarification.

Though I would argue that purity is found in originality which it now appears you have forsaken.

I forsaked originalness long ago. Long before unclipping the Soundaktor.

Have spent a few weeks with the R now, and I'm certainly enjoying it as much as I'd thought I would even at this early stage.

    A few more observations:

•This is the first car I've driven where the reversing camera mutes the audio playback. I guess it's a safety feature but it took me by surprise as I've never had this happen before in a car with a reversing camera.

•Also with the reversing camera, I noticed that the green outline showing where the car is going to end up doesn't display on my car. There is the fixed yellow outline but not the green one that moves with the steering wheel. I had read elsewhere on the forum that people had this issue when having the camera retrofitted but the camera and RNS-510 were both factory options on my car. Doesn't really bother me as I normally rely on the 'looking out the windows' method of reversing to avoid hitting things.

•The stock intercooler really doesn't work very well. We've only had a few days of high 20s in Canberra this month, so nothing really all that hot, but the drop in performance on hot days is quite noticeable. Thankfully a cooler upgrade is part of the upcoming modifications.

•I originally thought the car was a bit lacking in straight line performance, and I have now backed that up with numbers. The DriftBox recorded 0-100kph in 6.5 sec - slower than my Polo. That figure was with the DSG in S and just with a standard foot-to-the-floor launch (no launch control), so I know there's probably 1.5 sec at the start where the car was thinking about what I'd asked it to do before actually releasing the clutch and going. The car has a Stage 1 APR tune and DSG reflash but nothing else at this stage.

Muting the audio is actually the reversing sensors so you can hear them My R does the same with no RVC.

My (retrofitted) camera doesn't mute the audio, but I think the optical sensors might do it (should be a setting somewhere).

Moving lines are only for the larger cars, they're not in any Golf's. There's an extra module that links in with the steering wheel.

    Agree with intercooler

6.5 for a Golf R is not great, but for a stage 1 APR Golf R it sounds very wrong. Have a chat with whoever loaded the software. I can do ~6.5 in my APR Stage 1 118TSI.

Thanks - the only other VW I've driven with reversing camera and optical parking is a Tiguan, which has the moving lines. I just assumed they'd be part of the setup with the R also given it has the same options.

The Tiguan doesn't mute the audio when reversing, but it's a 2010 model so maybe that changed in the newer cars.

Is that time using launch control or any other method to get the car off the line quicker, or just a plain 'stab foot and go' start?

I reckon the slow time is not so much the power of the car (or lack thereof) but rather the hesitation of the DSG. Next time I get a suitable opportunity I'll try the launch control method and see if that improves things.

Use launch control. Then we'll talk. As long as you're using an accurate 0-100 timer...

My manual does 5.5 with a stage 1 Viezu on a P3 gauge. I'd expect 5 sec in your DSG with an APR stage 1.

James, what's your rolling times like, say 60-120km/h? Machine used my gtech at the drags last week, we'll hopefully catch up this weekend and I can pull all the split times to compare/provide if desired. That will clearer demonstrate launch versus power, if that's the question.
