A 125kw diesel is always going to use less fuel than a 180kw petrol with 4WD.
interesting though.. 125TDI in a Passat Wagon gets 5.1L/100Km's
Same trip, same driver, same time of day (2 weeks apart) and the R gets around 8.7L/100km's...
both cars with similar Km's
I'm thinking perhaps I have a boost leak or something like that.
PS.. am I the only one that hears a shriek when you give it the boot from a low rev (and when it gets to max. song at around 2800rpm)
Has me worried it may be shaft play.. probably just the Diverter valve opening up....
More opportunites have been lost from indecision, rather than wrong decision....

He said he drove both the same way so I didn't bother catering for it
I won't hold that against you![]()
So the R goes quite well against a reasonably modified automatic XR6T ute that the driver was claiming to have in excess of 300rwkw's. A mate of mine used to have one and he cracked 400rwkw without too much trouble - and that thing was damn fast.
They were super cocky.....saying "i wish you luck - your going to need it" etc etc. Haha lucky for me they are dumb bogans and dont know anything about cars that arent Fords. They had no idea the Golf was AWD, and no idea how fast they can be.
1st gear im ahead, 2nd gear im ahead, 3rd gear im still ahead although the big Ford is winding up, 4th gear they finally pass me. Haha. I knew they would win eventually, but i was surprised how long the little dub held them off. If mine was DSG then i would have held them off for even longer.
Yeah those Fords take a while to wind up, but when they do they are doing ballistic speeds. Then again that's the KW kicking in.. tuned R with say with 230KW ATF is probably going to run out of puff at 140 but the Ford is going to just keep pushing on.. the DSG would have put more space between you, possibly into 5th before he caught you .. just that gain on the gear change makes a fair bit of difference against a slush box in the Ford.
Funny because the V8 is slower![]()

^ yeh the V8's are much slower - especially the naturally aspirated 5.4L XR8 ones. Another mate of mine has a a new GT Falcon ("Coyote" supercharged 5.0L) and i would say his car is about as fast as this XR6T from the other day.
At times like those, i wish i had the DSG because they are so damn fast in a straight line.
don't wish otherwise, you bought a manual for a reason, same as I bought the DSG , it had nothing to do with straight line times or the 4 times when it makes you wish you had made another decision.
I like the DSG because of the smooth power delivery and I live in Sydney,.. have just got an MX-5 so the manual thrill is for weekends
