You have to start using Sports mode mr Fox, D mode when you have high intake temps is just crap and the DSG will exaggerate the crapness with its increased shift times too. In the part throttle area we only add timing everything else remains the same so if anything its more responsive. With the stock intake your hurt a bit more too just by not being able to get the cooler air in an the temps down, although part load on the freeway at speed it wouldn't be too much different. Many of the these mods only serve to make things more stable or consistent especially in the intake temp department. Once in the cooler air things will be immediately different
These days the only time I use D is when the traffic is bumper to bumper but anything else its sports or manual for me and that's stock cars or modifed too. D mode needs to be modified, its just sluggy/laggy as hell. I think its needs to be modified so that its in between D and S and S mode moved up just a touch.
Indeed - I'm always finding myself in M mode unless it's start stop traffic.
If I'm using cruise control on the Fwy I'll put it into Sport mode so that when I do push in the gas the response is immediate.
This might be worth posting this in this forum.
I first noticed a problem with my MY12 Golf R DSG at around 2000kms, a shudder at around 4000 rpm in manual mode.
My dealer service guy drove it and was at a loss as to what was the cause of the problem. After research, he suspected it was the Haldex not performing as it should. Seems VWA have confirmed that this diagnosis is correct.
Anyway, they have the car now and are rectifying, hopefully. I pick it up tomorrow and will report back with the result.
Glad its not a DSG woe!
Hope it gets sorted mate.
Thanks, the loan car is a MK VI GTI manual, interesting comparison. Having come from a MK V Golf GTI, suffice to say that I made the right decision between a Golf R DSG and a Golf GTI. IMHO
