its been ages since I was on this site. Anyway still loving my UG 2010 Golf R. Had it since late Jan and its clocked up about 20,000k's without any major dramas *touch wood* apart from stuffing a set of front tyres on a massive 6 foot or so wide pothole that the bloody council left after doing some roadworks.

Today was one minor drama. My 4 yr old nephew was in the middle of back seat with my daughters on the way to the beach and he decides to put down the rear cup holder and practice his football skills on it. Anyway the door to the holder snapped out and broke off the little catch that holds one side in. Needless to say I was pissed, but what can ya do lol. Luckily I managed to find the small bit that was broken off and super glue it back on when I got home. It was bent on the join in the plastic so its still kinda wonky but hopefully its enough to hold it in place. . Add to that I caught him swinging on the rear door handle and about to pull down on the rear wiper as well. I needed the patience of a saint today I swear. Ah kids ya gotta love em o_O. LOL!

Anway it might seem minor but to us fans who LOVE our cars its enough to make ya cry sometimes! )
I just had my 3 year old modify one of the vents in that same area. The parts have fallen down in side but if I can get them back it might be possible for it to be reconstructed. I still have to find where the two snails went too

Was at Fivedock today and passed Barlowworld VW and there was a Green Sirocco R out the front which after I had been into the place I was visiting turned in front of me in traffic. Cant say they look the goods, I had thought in photos they looked impressive ( even for a 3 door) but in the metal a bit meh.

Maybe it was the colour but will be interesting to see if they get the cult following they have elsewhere in the world

The one we had in NZ for a few weeks took my breath away initially, mostly the rear styling but after a few days it made me realise it looks more like 2-3 vehicles joined together.

    Nothing really matches design wise.

They look too tired now, styling is dated.

Without the offer of AWD, the hodge podge styling and non uniqueness of interior styling, it all seems a little bland.

Not a fan at all. I think they stuffed it up. Front looks ok. But only because it has the R nice bumper. headlights are ok. Badge on the bonnet looks crap. Rear looks crap. FAT. FWD too. As above, each to there own.

I had a drive of a scirocco R today at a dealership, and whilst it drives great, what an ugly car. I really thought it would appeal to me a lot more than what it did... it may as well have been a 2 seater because no normal size human would fit in the rear seats.. the car is tiny. my Golf R just "feels" like more of a car to drive and to look at.. For 50k the scirocco is very overpriced. the rear is just wrong in real life.. front looks nice however. but in general the car just feels and looks like a females car.

lets be glad we all went with the Golf R!

A little harsh, horses for courses.. I saw one today in RB which I thought would really float my boat but alas not to be. I have said before that for a 3 door fan it will tick a lot of boxes, I suspect that most of us are used to the Golf shape and practicality it brings. Remember the Golf is not the most attractive sports car on the road either ...

calling the rear of the scirocco R "ugly" is like calling Miranda Kerr "average". I wouldnt go so far as to say its ugly...but given the choice I'd definitely take the Scirocco R over a spec'd up 3 dr MK6 Golf GTI

Agreed....everyone has their own opinion of course, but myself, i find the car very nice looking. Several reasons i wouldn't swap my Golf for one though are:

    1) 3 door. I had 2x 200sx's and im over the big heavy doors. And skinny driveway plus skinny garage mean annoying.
    2) No leather interior.
    3) DSG only apparently (according to my dealership)

So ill just admire the Scirocco's good looks instead.
