Rather than opening a new thread, I'll stick my question here.
Is there any exhaust drone when cruising on highways in between 100-115kmh? Stock exhaust.
Thanks.
The concept of "drone" and what people consider "drone" varies from person to person, but the "flapper valve" which has just been discussed above means that it's relatively quiet when you're just cruising.
Having said that, a "real" 115km/h (about 124km/h on the speedo) will mean the revs in 6th are around/just over 3000rpm. It would definitely be quieter if it had a 7th gear.
We just did a return trip to QLD (very regular trips). The R is quieter than our GTI MKV at freeway speeds.
That is both road noise and exhaust/engine noise. The GTI used to drone for rear seat passengers and noticeable in the front too. Both unmodified.
However, if you open the throttle to overtake etc, yes, the R is louder, in a very nice way :)
Had a weird thing happen to me this afternoon. The car is a manual so that probably excludes about 98% of you from being able to know what i am about to explain :P .
I took off quite quickly from a standstill up to about 30kph (1st gear only) and then stopped again at a giveway sign. Foot on clutch, no accelerator but the RPM's hovered at around 3000rpm for several seconds. I tried blipping the throttle to settle the revs but it didnt make a difference.
After a few seconds the revs dropped again to normal idle and i pulled away. Ive never had this happen before but i have also never driven off and then braked in that matter either. I assume it has something to do with the electric throttle? My foot was certainly not on the acellerator.
