i think the VW 504,502 is recommended to reduce carbon build up in the TSI motors
so im having a read of my manual for the Golf R in regards to engine oil and it says
59kw-199kw petrol engines
WITHOUT LONGLIFE
VW 504, VW 502
WITH LONGLIFE
VW 504
Can someone tell me the difference between the two? I've had my heart set on getting the LIQUIMOLY 4200 toptec 5w30 engine oil but I want to try MOTUL but unsur of which one I can use?

As per our PM, VAG 502 is the old inferior certification. It's only relevant for 7500km and less services. The current spec is 504.00/507.00
The list of approved oils is documented in the Fuels & Lubes forum.
Liquimoly Toptec 4200 5w30 is 504.00 certified and what I've been using in my R.
Yeah - there are multiple service types. There is the variable one where the car tells you based on environment, sensors, and your driving styles (what you're mentioning). Then there is the 7500km intervals and the 15000km interval servicing which we do in Australia. Either way, 504 is for 15000km servicing.
In any case, if you've seen the pictures of the 100,000km pull down after 502 oil... you'd be insane to not spend the extra $20 to get the better 504 oil...
After my 15K service, I plan on changing oil every 7500km. 504 oil should still be used correct?
There is an entire subforum on this issue
I mean, use whatever you want. But from my point of view, quality German engineered and manufactured VAG 504 certified oil is readily available here, and you already had your heart set on using it (the Liquimoly). And on a $60k car, having to pay $20 more to get it via the 502 stuff, in my view, is a no brainer....
But you'll find lots more opinions in that subforum.
Hmmmm, here's my observation for the day..... don't ask me why but I decided to have a look under the car today. First thing I saw on the floor of my garage was 20 cent sized oil stains. Low and behold I see my sump plug weeping. Checked oil level and all good.
Any others here had this issue? Assume it only just needs nipping up. Hopefully anyway.

Does anyone know what the lugs need to be torqued to on the R?
Was doing track work at Morgan Park Raceway this week and was wondering what is a safe oil temp and what is too high? Oil was only 1000k old. Oil got up to 117.
