It now allows you to hold the car in gear without the annoying automatic upshift you get in the R. That alone is worth it's weight in gold to me.

Yeah - I'm not yet convinced this is necessary yet.... but more indepth discussion is available in the DSG and 350nm Torque Limit ? thread.
You could live without it, juts like you could live without spending on an R. But since we are there, this is definitely an improvement to the R if it delivers, no question about that.
The auto upshift is probably the thing I like least about the R, reminds me of it being automatic too much.
I just hope someone here sells it so I can get it!!

The auto upshift isn't really _that_ much of a bother with VAG cars and DSGs. I mean, I haven't really had the opportunity for _proper_ driving in the R yet, but in the GTI the only people who complain about the upshift (well, that I've seen) are posers and people who really don't know what they're talking about. The efficiency of the GTI engine and turbo are well and truly lost before you get to the redline...
... and even if for some reason you WANT to be running your car inefficiently, and you're on a high speed long radius corner whilst doing so, if you do hit the redline and it upshifts, because it's so quick and smooth, it's not going to upset the balance of the car anyway.
Lets assume that you did this mod and it did take away the automatic upshift - then you'll just hit the rev limiter... now THAT could upset the balance of the car!
In addition, the page you linked to is talking about the R32, not the R.
I think much more information needs to be supplied first. And it'd be nice to see something more specific to the R (rather than R32).
Lol no I don't want to be running the car inefficiently.
And the GTI I test drove didn't do the auto upshift thing on me? I thought it was only on the R? Could be wrong there. Still, wicked mod. And cmon Coreying what does holding a gear have to do with posing, I'm buying a GOLF!!!
And I've owned about 6 descent cars and probably know about as much as you do Coreying when it comes to performance mods. Think over 400hp not just a chipped GTI. Thanks for the comments though

The auto upshift if present in all DSG equipped cars, so no, this is nothing new.
I have no doubt you have owned plenty of cars. But it wouldn't matter if you had owned a 1000hp performance car, when the topic is GTI's and R's, particularly Stage 1 and 2 modded ones. Your comments in this thread and especially the other thread show, is that you are not familiar with the VAG cars yet, as what is true for big turbo WRXs (and Skylines as I know well from my best friend) is not necessarily true with the relatively small turbo VAG engines.
The reason I said "poser" (and that's not aimed at you btw) is because anyone who does know about them would know that you are SLOWING YOUR CAR DOWN by not shifting well before the redline on the K03 equipped cars. I've just heard too many people, mostly on other forums, whinge about this, yet most people are sitting around thinking "why are you wanting to run around on the redline anyway"?
As for the K04 cars (S3, Golf R), I don't personally know yet, so you won't find me arguing about it.
Edit: Guy H has just posted links with tables and graphs of some dudes who have investigated this in the VAG cars...
Lol... the graphs show that the car won't upshift till 300 to 500 rpm above the redline! Anyway lets take the discussion back to that thread

No I couldn't! Why else would I wait almost a full 12mths from deposit to delivery!!!!
I've done probably 1.5hrs of test drives now and I really couldn't find any issues with the DSG program. There is a very minor pause when taking off from a standstill and that is about it. They've done well IMO.
I don't understand why you feel it necessary to post an opinion like that in such an inflammatory manner. As a moderator you really should be setting a good example.
Put me in the camp of those who are in manual mode who would prefer to run the car "inefficiently" and have full control rather than the DSG upshift even when it is no where near the redline. I've got a manual and find the MFD telling me to shift up / down is frequently "wrong" because it is not aware of the hill or the corner I'm about to enter. That said, it's a preference, nothing to get too worked up about.
