I think it's down to a fuel gauge that easily gets confused, but even so it got relatively good fuel economy.

No doubt someone will come and say that the fuel gauge is impeccable and can never be faulted and I must be lyeing because VW is just so amazing.

    Doubt it.
I've won awards for fuel economy runs & I can just sneak the 1.8TSI under the 5s if i stay below 80 & draft a bit. I doubt the extra drag of AWD & wider tyres & (to a lesser extent) the extra weight would get an R20 below 5 without being a right royal pain to other motorists. You might manage on the run from CBR to Syd or a similar down coast - maybe.

Haven't done it with the R, but have managed this with a 09' WRX down the M2/M7. Of course, it depends on how accurate the on board meter is. I was definitely below 5/100 for the most part of a 50km run.
I'll admit it's not something you'd do regularly, but this particular time, The fuel light had been on for quite sometime and I thought I'd try to make it to Elizabeth Drive. Manage to get there with quite a few litres to spare.

I saw this when VW Racing UK actually released it. And within a few days there were people talking about issues with running it. It replaces the MAF pipe and socket, and the R is sensitive to it. I didn't follow it through to resolution of their issues cause there seemed to be some questions about how much testing it actually got for release, and so I just wrote it off... (I was interested in the APR one they were developing anyway, as I think you were from memory). The reason the APR one is "on hold" is exactly that same reason... sensitivity of the R once you change the MAF pipe. GIAC with their Extreme tune are mandating the VF intake and have developed the tune based solely around that.

Anyway... if you were interested in it, I'd be finding threads with people already running it for a while to see how they're going.
From that thread, it looks like Forge are finally going to release a TwinTake for the R... Being Forge, it should have had some decent amount of testing too. Maybe that'll be another option?

Unless that is a stock photo and not the kit for the R it appears that the DV return is actually before the MAF which would really cause issues. I've seen some info about the Forge one on vortex and they are claiming 17hp gain on a stg2 R.

Hmmm thats not too good, I did try and find some info from people who have run it in the UK but had no luck, don't suppose you have any linkage?

    Cheers
