He's replicated the thread on the MK6forums as well which is much easier to navigate. Lo and behold, Fab is all over it. I can see where this will end up....

Quick question regarding APR Stage 1. I've read up and I get the fact it is an ECU upgrade and I understand how its applied but I don't get one thing...

Do you have to activate it via the cruise control stalk every time you get into the car? Or does it default to "on' or am I missing something there? The video on the APR page is slightly confusing me....

The back to stock initiative sounds like just the thing for a nervous first chipper as well huh...MIght be worth the coin, just in case... http://www.goapr.com.au/products/bts.html
    Appreciate it.

    Appreciate it.
For the R, it's on the whole time. We don't have program switching capability - hence the back to stock program. Ignore that ECMS thing on the R's APR page.

I don't know if this should be here on in the tyre thread, but RUD Centrax chains do seem to fit on the 18 inch Talladegas that come with the R. Just received a set that I ordered from the UK - they seem to fit well, haven't scratched the rims/bodywork (yet). Went on a very short (<200m) crawl down the street, no issues noted with full lock on the steering. Hopefully this helps someone else looking to take the R to the snow this season

My quick review. Have had the car 4 days and completed 550kms and on 2 of those days the car sat in the garage and had a rest. Will have around 800km up by Wednesday.

The car is great, love the power, don't like the car in D or S around town. Was in Sydney on Saturday and found D to be too sluggish as the car was in too high a gear, had to put the boot into to get it to move and that meant delay while the DSG thought about what my right foot was telling it to do. At this stage I plan to only use D in stop start traffic. As stated a million times S holds the gears too long. Also tested S on the old Pacific Hwy and when fanging along S is great and will probably use same when giving the R a boot full. Otherwise on a day to day basis it is manual changes for me and with the paddles changing gears is a delight. Now to get those ST2 paddles and sprint booster installed.

The car does have a little lag when you want to take off quickly and haven't anticipated the need to do so, but this was what i discovered on my test drive all those months ago so no disappointment there. Maybe the sprint booster will help get rid of that along with a tune.

Also noticed that the car does creep forward if you lift your foot off the brake, just like an auto. I wasn't expecting that.

Discovered my first stone chip yesterday (the first of many), out with the touch up paint.

    Now where are those keys................

Bout time it turned up.. damn that is a long wait.. I thought 9 months was a haul

I have to say i really don't experience all this sluggish behavior folk talk about. I like the fact you can drive it very sedately and it behaves like Camry yet you can give it a thump and it roars to life. The S mode is insane, love it dearly and have no idea how folk chip it to make it even more hard core.

Don't get me wrong I am sure it is a bigger rush just the standard offering is pretty good.

Was down in Sydney again this morning (getting the tint done) and tried out D mode again. Yes I reckon it is sluggish as my natural driving style is to drive with a "light foot". I tried putting the boot into it and it changed more quickly and took off so i started to think about that sprint booster in the cupboard and i reckon, based on past reviews from others, that that may help.

Anyway sprintbooster and S2T paddles going on on Thursday so I will report back on those mods.

Am monitoring brake dust and contemplating those replacement brake pads that Lucas_R reported on a while back. After that i can sit back and enjoy for the a few ,000 km.

Has anyone else observed how popular the Golf 6 seems to be with people whose surname presumably starts with R? (i.e. Corey_R, Rob_R, dave_R, Lucas_R, Fab_R, Ryan_R, etc)

I think the R is the username is due to their ownership of an R in most cases, not so much the surname.
