That's fair I suppose... doesn't mean I'm not still eying off the Golf Convertible

Btw... details are still not clear, but VW have also released photos of a GTI Ragtop Concept:

As well as "real life" photos of the GTI 35, with escorted by females...

    And other hot older GTI's

Still working on them (I know, said this before), but been involved in technical discussions, even this morning - If it doesn't run right on all cars, they wont release it.

1200 Klms and still going strong

The past week has been reasonably uneventful with just short commutes to work so limited experience of what it can and can't do and presentation of some of the issues that a new VW will throw up. However last Friday went 4 hours up the coast , unfortunately the majority of the trip was on the Pacific hwy but this was done in the afternoon and evening so got to experience more of the R offerings

The red ambient light that is thrown from the roof console is so cool, the anti glare rear vision mirror makes the world of difference on tired eyes. I figure GTI owners have had the pleasure of these little touches.

I did experience the complete shutdown of the RNS510 4 times somewhere between Gosford and Raymond terrace. I am sure someone else had this glitch so yell if you know.

I am still working out how the climate control operates, haven't sussed if the AC has to be on or not for it to maintain the temperature but what ever I did maintained the cabin very nicely.

The internal foot lights are set to on.. anyone considered changing these to Red or Blue.. I think that the yellow ambient light is a little distracting.

I am very pleased with the boot space , not as big as the Liberty but handled averything I threw in there with ease.

ACC, I am thinking as you get more used to the car the more this feature presents. I love comfort mode, yes for old men like me I like the way it absorbs the bumps especially on long hauls. I flicked it to sport mode and the whole car seems to tense so I put it back to comfort and it lounged along just nicely.

The seats, what more can be said.. Found the lumbar support and the comfort is just superb, again the longer you sit in the car the more you appreciate the detail put into getting the Golf right.

I will eave the flag waving about the performance and handling to the hardcore here, but for those that appreciate the finer things if you have chosen the R there is little to be disappointed about

This was a problem with the V2 maps. It's supposed to have been resolved in the V3 maps. I haven't had it happen with mine in that area. Maybe check the DVD you have to ensure that they've given you the latest and not old stock.

It will attempt to, and in winter it does it quite well once the engine is warm, but in summer, it can't because the AC needs to be on to cool.

You can adjust the % of the lights in 5% intervals. So there is more than just "on" and "off". Try that before going to the expense of changing lights. Changing to white leds is expensive and requires adaptors, but people have done it. I haven't seen any colour led kits, but it'd be easy to change the leds with those from jaycar. However, it'd be far cheaper to just tint the light cover.

They didn't give me DVDs for the Sat Nav, I rang them about it and they insisted I did not need them as they were pre loaded and I would be sent new ones with the next map revision. I haven't found how to see what version of the maps I have but been told they are the latest
