Yeah it is, but for some reason it's built in batches (unlike the other models). So I would presume it's because it's an AWD chassis or something.

    Yep, pretty much

Ah ok. I think the part that annoys me most is I can't go pick something else cos everything else around the money is rubbish (IMO). The bastards have me over a barrel lol.

Sounds like that is how it is. Mine order hasn't had any info update in over a month since it reached the buildability check. Makes it sound more plausable that the R's (at least) are done in batches.

What specs did you order for the R?
Ordered the rising blue 5DR ,DSG,ACC .RVC with leather.
I originally thought I might get a grey but They are a bit nondescript
I think the 19s look better but I might be able to put snowchains on the 18s.
I don't really care for the other options.

With the GTI and GTD the manual says you can't put chains on the 17's... so there is no way you'd be able to put them on the 18's!

Nice spec mate. Do you mind letting us know how much you paid for it?

Got the corporate discount and a lower delivery charge and will pay very similar to Man In Black's price (lucky bugger as he is driving his now)
Some dealers didn't seem interested in including these on their quotes , though did mention them in my initial discussions.
I ordered through a country dealership who changed an order they had in the system.

The R is AWD. There is probably no requirement to fit snow chains in the majority of Australian ski resorts. Mind you summer performance tyres are diabolical in snow conditions.

This may have been asked elsewhere and I just haven’t seen it, but has anyone installed any after-market DSG Shift Paddles. Originally I was looking at getting a set of the OSIR O-Shift-GT paddles (OSIR Design USA-OSIR - O-Shift-GT - VW MkV/MkVI), but with postage costing way more than the product itself I have been put off. Whilst perusing I encountered S2T Performance VW shifters (VW) which it seems were very popular and possibly this may be the way to go. A lot more expensive for the product itself, but postage is cheaper. Just wish I had been a member of vwgolf.net.au and gone in with their group buy.

Also, are the mats that come with the R standard mats and are R embroidered mats available such as they are apparently got GTi’s?
United Grey R: All the accessories (leather, not Recaro's though), S2P paddles, Kuftech DVD in motion. Carbon grill, mirrors and diffuser awaiting to be fitted.

I'm not sure I see the point of the OSIR paddle replacements. They're the same size as the standard ones, just that they're metal instead of plastic. The S2TPP paddle shifters actually give a functional difference to the product and is something that I'm definitely interested in purchasing when my R arrives. Maybe we should organise a group buy for VW Watercooled. I'd be in on that

As for mats. The mat which come with the Golf R as standard are black with grey border on them (in the same grey as the feature stitching on the steering wheel and gear boot etc). There is no wording embroided in them.
