I was driving home at dusk the other night and took off hard at a set of lights and noticed a cloud behind me. I assumed it was the diesel Hilux that was sitting next to me but having read that was most probably me

With the Golfs it's a combination of the lack of mud flaps + the aerodynamics that causes the rear to get so dirty. You'll notice that if it starts raining whilst your on the highway the rear window will stay dry, up until you drive through a puddle and the tyres throw up the water spray that appears to be magnetically attracted to the rear hatch / window. Mk5 was the same.

Mine was bad as well - but I went to VW and spent $80 just for the rear mudflaps (I'm sure the Internet has them cheaper) - and the back stays cleaner for longer.

Picked up my R this morning! Daymn Kingpin Euro Plate holders don't integrate well into the front bumper. They don't follow the curvature of it.

Awesome car so far! Very easy to drive slow & fast!

QUESTION: How do you activate the left tilting mirrors when parallel parking?

I'm still out at the moment and haven't had the chance to read the manual!

Set the mirror to left for adjusting then select reverse and then adjust down the mirror to the best spot.

It's a hatch thing, white just makes it worse! I reckon I'd need to clay the back of the Polo every few months to get rid of the amount of **** that is caked on by the time I get around to washing it! The R still gets fairly dirty along the top of the rear bar below the hatch opening.

Thanks Fab! I'll give it a try later. And do I just leave the knob pointing towards "L" the whole time for it to automatically tilt everytime Reverse is engaged?

Oh hell yeah!! Such an awesome car. Not much driving done today, it was too hot and somehow the A/C wasn't cold enough. Ended up seeking refuge in HighPoint shopping centre. It's bloody cold and windy out there now. Melbourne - where you get to test your new car's A/C and Heater both in 1 day.

    #OBSERVATIONS#
Recaros: Good snug & comfortable. Seriously gives the car an X-Factor. Dislikes about them are getting in/out & it's unability to slide forward & backwards when tilting the seats.

DSG: Upshifts too quickly which makes it kinda smooth for city driving as you don't get sudden bursts of power surges. Slip it into S for slightly more spirited driving.

ACC: Feels very different between Sport & Comfort. Definitely worth the money!

On a side note, I managed to meet Serge @ Barloworld VW Bayside today (no he wasn't my sales consultant). Good to meet a fellow VWWatercooled forumer! I've had excellent service from this dealership and have no idea what the rest were whinging about? My thoughts would be to treat others with respect and you will get the same.
