Nah - it'll work in S or Manual modes.

If you want it to change gears, then put it into S. Otherwise, if you've put it in manual, change the gears yourself!
I figured it'd be faster going to the redline! So S changes earlier than M? I will have to try that next time and see how much difference it makes. Also does the aircon compressor turn off at full throttle (I know it did on my wrx), because the aircon was on (speed in comfort ).

There's your answer right there....aircon is slowing you down.

Shifting at redline is not always (and depending on your car, sometimes never) the best time to shift. The other thing is that by you putting it to manual and then not shifting, the car gets to the redline and then goes "oh, I guess he forgot to shift or something... no maybe he will... no he's not... ok, I'll do it for ya", whereas when you use S and LC, it shifts at the optimal time - which may mean that the rev needle does go into the redline, but it's just timed to the optimal degree.

You'd be a pretty experienced and sensorarily aware person to manually shift the DSG better than S for launches.

And no, the Golf doesn't turn off the AC compressor at full throttle.

Good to know Corey. HPSOV's times are significantly off what we've been used to seeing from the DSG R's. Good to know there are a few external influences at play here to make those times. Maaybe we delete his posts and pretend this never happened hhaha.
