davka, i think in weewilly's case, his age (no offense to weewilly) and possibly good driving record may have something to do with it being sub $450.

+1! I just paid mine over the phone. $1290 NRMA with perfect record thus far, good area, 29 yo. I did get the hire car and windshield cover plus $800 excess.

AAmI was 70 cheaper but meh.

About the same with GIO minus the car hire but my decorated history isn't quite 5yrs old yet. Oddly enough AAMI was about $400 less! Though still not worth it!

    Anyway, I'll add some observations...

Took a mate for a drive last night and found a couple corners that under load the front tyres would scrub a bit inside the guards under acceleration at full lock. Same thing again with ACC in sport and no scrubbing at all. Makes it just that little bit firmer that it doesn't roll as much into the corner. Feels like it has more grip too because you don't hear/feel the tyres really struggling like I'd noticed before. Maybe with less movement in the suspension, it makes a fair difference.

Not scientific, just seat of the pants feel. Could be full of **** but no one said my observation had to be right

Thanks for the update, maybe a set of sways is all that's needed to dial out understeer with an ACC equipped R.

    Hi all,

I am a newb on the forum so go easy on me....

I have just signed a contract on a new Golf R.

I am so excited I get it on Friday arvo.

It was a cancelled order and the car is in dealer stock.

I have got the following spec:

    MY11
    Rising blue 4 doors
    6 Speed manual
    Black 19" wheels
    Satnav
    MDI
    leather seats
    electric seat adj.

    I got a great price!

Only thing I wish it had was ACC, but i guess that not having to wait 6 months is worth the compromise. I wish it had the 18" wheels in silver.

Does anyone have a R with the 19" wheel and no ACC? What is the ride like?

If the ride is ok I will just get my 19" wheels re-painted silver. My wife doesnt like the black wheels...

If its too harsh I might see if I can do a swap with someone who has silver 18" wheels.

    Is anyone interested?

    Cheers

Yeah you might be right, but I'm in no hurry to go work it out just yet! My tyres won't see 20k though...

Don't repaint them. Just find someone who wants to swap. Should be EASY if the dealer won't.
Worst case someone will do a straight swap with you, but I'd be going for a swap with cash in your favour given they're a $1k+ option.

Edit: LOL didn't read the last 2 lines! Maybe put a post in the classified section of this forum and see if anyone will do the swap.

Try it with the 19" first then consider swapping. You may find it isn't as bad as you think.

I did ask the dealer about a wheel swap but they said they werent interested as they only have the 1 new golf R in stock.

If anyone would like some brand new black 19" wheels and tyres let me know.

What do you think would be a fair price? factory option was $1,300 - sell for $800? - saving of $500 over factory option.

My car didnt come with the bluetooth option. Dealer was trying to sell me premium bluetooth for $1,500 or standard for $800. My cant you just get the MY11 factory bluetooth installed for $550? Can I get one of those OEM ebay kits from europe (about $500)? Can you install them yourself? or do you need the dealer to do it?

I cant wait to get the car.

    True

I will see how I go with the 19" first.

    Thanks for the advice
