I think the Scirocco R is a great looking car but definitely DON'T regret the purchase of the Golf R – Love the AWD, 5 doors and the subtleness of it

If anyone would be disappointed, (and I very much doubt they would be) it would be those that purchased the 3 door?

[QUOTE=simonm;591932]Yup - went out and saw my car on Saturday, dealer said it will be ready for me to pick up this afternoon!

Beautiful day to put that AWD system through its paces! Enjoy!!!

Hey guys... A bit off topic here

I took delivery of my 5dr DSG Golf R last week. Having driven the R32 for the past 2 years I miss the surge of immediate torque, off the mark and in the low rev range, so I’ve decided to go with APR stage 1 tune followed by stage 2 with down pipes, Carbonio air intake and tune. These mods will hopefully reduce the turbo lag from what I can see here in the forum. However, my concern is that by having these mods done, it will somehow jeopardize engine reliably and its lasting performance due to heat soak. That means I will need to go with the APR intercooler, by doing that I’m afraid it will increase the lag and affect performance in general. The R is my daily drive and I have no track intentions.

I would like to hear from anyone with Golf R who did stage 1 or stage 2 followed by APR intercooler installation, as to how it affected the car’s performance, lag or pressure drop, particularly in the low rev range.

I am aware that this topic was chewed here to death but I can’t find anyone with these exact impressions.

    Many thanks.

Can I be so bold as to suggest you drive it for a month and see how it beds in before trying to make it replicate the R32..you may find your driving style adjusts as will the car..

I don't believe you'd get a significant increase in lag by fitting the APR intercooler - but someone please feel free to correct me if this isn't the case.

No extra lag from the APR intercooler, it has the same flow rates (pressure drop) as the stock cooler.

    Thanks for feedback.

SilverFoxX, I think i will take your advice and drive it for a month before i do anything

Guy_H, do you mind me asking, from your experience did you have any reliability issues with Stage 2 cars with OEM IC? In your opinion is it a must to upgrade the IC?

    Thanks.

I know it is different but my experience with my Suabru Liberty when I first got it was it took about 3 tanks of fuel to get the ECU lockstepped with my driving.. hard to explain but I found it just seemed to take that long to get both me and it sorted

    I understand.

Btw you gonna love the ACC. I have 19's with ACC and it's great. it is much smoother than the ride i had in the R32 with 18's, IMO.

Like those that don't have it I felt when I test drove the R without ACC it was very compliant and no real concerns.. I even tested up and down Parramatta road auto ally which is a goat track and found it fine.. if you reckon there is a diceranble different with ACC then I am very pleased.. I purchased it based on all the reading ( and if it was anything like the M3 I was in when they hit the M button it was a must have)
