Golf R Observations and Questions

I like how that Scirocco article mentions that the Scirocco R is more powerful than the Golf R because the Golf is slightly detuned. But it's detuned for 'the Aussie climate', so presumably the Scirocco will be, too.

That may be, but the article specifically mentions 195kw/350Nm to the Golf R's "detuned" 188kw/330Nm.

The Euro spec Golf R is 199kw/350Nm. The question is whether the Scirocco R will also be detuned for Australia, because if it is then the article's comments regarding the Scirocco outgunning the Golf, specifically around those figures, are inaccurate.

just a curious question though....

do you think the Golf R will have the same Cam Follower issue as the MK5 GTI's? And theres no MK5 or MK6 specific cam follower correct? It's one size fits more or less? Because the the Golf R engine is the S3 engine, which is essentially the same as the Golf MK5 GTI?

anyone know the answer?

there are significant differences between the MK5 GTI engine and S3/R engine. Do S3 people have the issue? Because they've been out for 4 years now... if they have the issue, then the R will have the issue too. No point asking people who haven't received their cars yet!

Seems like the Scirocco R is coming sooner Volkswagen Scirocco coming to Australia although there is no firm statement. Damn it is nice unit

Cool - it was the new Scirroco that made me look at the Golf VI when I found out they weren't coming here. I remember some Google Ad had a link to the all new Golf GTI around last August. I took one for a test drive and found out how much they cost I then later realised that the "comfort" models looked close enough to the GTI and were decently quick as well..... one year later, got the 118 TSI. That's my intro story to VW - maybe we should make a thread for everyone else's stories
