I've never heard many complaints to the effect that the Golf isn't practical. I can fit a mountain bike or 46" LCD in the back with the seats folded down, and don't think it matters if the seats aren't 100% folded down flat.

What ever happened to the \MP3\Artist\Album\##-title.mp3 ?
To me it doesn't matter whether you can listen to all the music in a few days or not. It's more that you could be somewhere and feel like listening to something, and if you've got your entire collection on hand, then you'll always be happy.
I'll be either changing the RNS-510 HDD to a 100GB Endurastar HDD or using a 64GB USB drive in combo with the 18GB to store the CD collection I own (converted with EAC / LAME -V 2).
But in any case, as the video shows, it only takes about 35 seconds to initialise a 16GB SD card. That's just when you put it in to start with. Turning off the car and back on, or changing to another media and back to the SD, it is ready in <2 seconds. This is in line with many MP3 players with expansion slots (actually... it's much better than many of them which can take up to 10 minutes to initialise a very full 16GB SD card!).
I was about to buy a 32GB one, but read that the RNS has issues when there are > 2000 songs on it, which you most certainly could fit on a 32GB card. Anyone know anymore details, like if it's been fixed?
How many songs do you have on it right now Fab_R?
Interestingly the R (@ say 300Nm) makes more torque than a GTI (@ say 260Nm) at 1700rpm according to Oettinger power graphs (stock).
Perception is an interesting confounding factor given the paise GTI's get for their responsiveness and to deriding R's get for their laggyness...the R engine is pulling harder (granted the car is heavier) lower in the rev range...suggesting it would be less laggy. The curve doesn't demonstrate the time between pressing the throttle and torque though???
I say 'perception' 'cause relitively much more torque is happening at 2400 than 1700 in an R so it feels much better at 2400rpm and it is impossible to remember the feeling between cars well enough to avoid confusion.
Strictly speaking, again using the Oettinger graph, GTI [I]peak[I] torque doesn't arrive until 5000rpm, where as the rather contrived R plateu arrives around 2400rpm. Granted at 1700 the majority of GTI torque is available.
While I not yet a DSG convert (but open to the concept - sequential gear selection with no torque converter) so maybe I don't 'get it' but wouldn't you easily enough over-ride the fuel efficiency software programming by paddling down a gear or two while subtly accelerating?
