Golf R not driving rear wheels

    Hey all,

Recently purchased 2012 golf R and I'm very pleased with it. My only concern lies with the launch control. As soon as I've released the brakes the front tyres spin like crazy resulting in the dsg to short shift into third gear and ultimately result with disappointing acceleration. All videos I've seen show the cars gripping quite well, as it shifts power to the rear.

I have fitted Michelin pilot Super sport to all four corners, so it is definitely not a tyre issue.

anyone else out there have a similar scenario or any advise?

You need that scanning mate. I suspect that the Haldex isn't working. Which I'd hope is a warranty job. Good be a number of things causing it. This isn't a job for internet diagnosis.

Pretty sure Frazza had a problem like this not that long ago.

Thanks for the prompt response Gavin.

The haldex should transmit 100% of the power to the rear as soon as the fronts slip, correct?

I always suspected this might have been the issue...got me a bit worried now.

They can't go 100% to the rear AFAIK, but certainly enough that the front stops spinning up. No point in worrying about it, the problem is there now. Focus on the solution, find someone to scan the car and then go from there.

Hopefully you are still in warranty and that VW take care of it.

I assume the dealer will be able to scan the car and identify the issue. Perhaps even a demonstration to show the excessive tyre spin.

Just seen you recently purchased, statutory warranty? Naturally the dealer (VW) would be able to scan it.

As Gavin said, you should not be getting full blown wheelspin with the AWD system. On a hard launch, you do sometimes get a bit of a chirp/scamper from the front wheels but it hooks up and goes.

Sounds like your Haldex/rear diff is not engaging.

    Thanks Gents,

Will ring dealer tomorrow and get the car inspected. Hopefully they cover things like this.

I had a similar issue with my Tig, but it was kind of worst case scenario with blown transfer case. If propeller shaft is not rotating with torque that is probably the cause. Hope it is just a Haldex controller issue.
