    Seriously guys, who cares.
    What do these numbers prove?
That if you own/drive an R, your p*nis isn't as long as someone who drives the Clio, STI, EVO?
Why is that so important to you?
    Bragging rights?

The R is fun to drive and if you enjoy driving it as much as I did, that is all that matters.
There will always be faster cars on the road but they may not be as fun to drive/own.

That's exactly the point I made. A manual R is a fantastic machine that doesn't need a DSG box to make it great. That's because it already is great. Having said that, when you buy an R you compromise on handling a bit but you get a fantastic cruiser.
I wanted the best handling that (my) money can buy so got the Clio but it's not exactly a smooth ride. Can't brag with power figures either, even less so with its torque. But boy, does it make me laugh out loud through roundabouts and when driving on them Adelaide Hills roads!
So, at the end of the day buying a car always involves some compromises. The main thing is to get the one that won't fall short on what you absolutely want from it. As long as your heart beats a wee faster when you look at it in your driveway or while driving on your favorite strip of asphalt, the 0-100 km/h time is utterly irrelevant.

I so love driving the Clio RS Cup Trophee! if I had room in the garage there definitely be one in it. It lacks torque & you have to rev its heart out, but its soooooo much fun to drive.

That's right, not the perfect car by any means but the Clio is the best for me. Just like the manual R it needs a gear change at 96 km/h, when it hits the revv limiter at 7,800 rpm. Bugger... Am I upset about it? Hell no!

Not sure I agree there, doubt ACC and 19s have any benefit on the track?

Why are people are surprised at the R not winning around the track? It isn't meant to be the ultimate track weapon! But a DSG is required for the 0-100km/h and 0-400m stuff, it is well know that the manuals are rubbish.

And there is the punchline! The R is a great all round street car. It will be beaten by other cars in various tests, big ****.

IMO the focus looks like a 15yo's wet dream outside and is tacky as **** inside. The styling of the Megane does nothing for me either. If they're faster then good for them. Doesn't make me feel inadquate or unhappy about my purchase nor should it anyone else.

It also should be noted that the mag doesn't choose what car they get. They ask the manufacturer for a car and get what they're given. VW are selling cars easily enough, giving them a manual they can't sell is probably easier hehe

    A few comments here

V8 Supercars have only had sequential boxes for a few years, but the gearbox they've been using since the start of the category has had a sequential kit option available for many years.

F1 has only had a useable sequential/automated gearbox since 1989 (Ferrari), though it had been tried earlier.

My preference was for a manual. I know DSG is faster and I probably would have gone with it if I did track days. It also saved me some money by not buying the DSG and I would have had to compromise (more) on other options otherwise.

Motor test their cars with 2 people and half a tank of fuel (approx.), so that will affect the performance times.

Oh and the dual-clutch in the M3 is awesome! Do BMW driver training if you want a go on track.

Have driven one before deciding is a piece of crap? Don't think so. My advice, don't try one because it will make you love the R less. A lot less.

Its a French car. Could be the best of the best at the time of purchase, but I'll bet you a case of Crownies when you go to sell the rattling bits and pieces that might be left in 4 years, you will curse the day you paid the deposit.
