Golf R Manual Gearbox Experiences & Opinions

    Hey everyone,

I know their has been much discussion on the MK6 forum regarding DSG. I was hoping we could have a discussion on the Golf R manual gearbox. Can people list their experiences and opinions whom have driven a Manual Golf R. I'm very interested to read about what you thought.

    Cheers.............

I'm sure you'll already find many opinions on this topic in any of the 5 or so other "R" threads currently on the 1st and 2nd threadlist page of the MK6 forum....

From what i've read DSG is the pick for this platform. Don't think the manual box is anything special (but would br better for the track).

Can only assume so as dsg may upshift when you don't expect it to?

Driven both the DSG & Manual R, would never choose a DSG but that is personal preference. I have not managed to take the car on a highway and "cruise" but I have read reports that the manual is a little short geared i.e. The DSG rpm @ 100 kph = 2000 & the Manual rpm @ 100 kph = 2400 so that might be a consideration. The manual box was good, coming from an R32 it felt very similar.

    FWIW, DSG @ 120kmh was doing 3000rpm.
I've read those reports saying the manual gearing is too short, but from what they were reporting it looks like my DSG is about the same? It certainly felt like it needed to go to 7th, and the fuel economy in the 110 zone was pretty average.

Your car is new so fuel efficiency wont be good yet. Takes 10-15,000km to get the best consumption figures.
