    Golf R Fuel Line Rattle

Thought I'd make a thread as I was unable to find any reference when hunting my rattle problem.

Over the course of the last few weeks I've been hearing a rattle which progressively got louder and louder. It could be heard at idle mostly once the engine had warmed up and initially from inside the dash and it progressively moved to the footwell and finally seemed to end up under the drivers seat. It was a little more than a rattle I'd almost describe it as a clunk.

With a previous indicator/washer stalk issue my local dealer wasn't of any assistance, turned out I just needed an hour and a couple of jimmies, so I wasn't overly confident VW would help, plus I've been previously quote the $130 an hour with no guarantee of rectifying the issue - and seeing as the car was almost 2 years old. So I was prepared to have to hunt down the rattle myself. However as it so happened I needed new wiper refills and ended up at the VW dealer near work and thought I'd mention the sound/rattle/clunk which I couldn't locate and seemed to be getting progressively worse - what would you know within a couple of seconds one of the technicians acknowledge the sounds and then proceeds to stop it by gripping the fuel line where it enters the engine.

The car was booked in today for the fix and I can happily report the rattle has gone, plus they sorted out another rattle in the rear passenger door.... big thumbs up. Seem this is a common issue with the Polo's however the techs indicated it's rather rare for a Golf.

It is rare for a Golf, especially a GOLF R, interesting, cheers for the share mate.

i had the fuel line rattle problem in my golf mk5 gti, exactly as you described.
i remember reading a fix somewhere on the golfmkv forums. basically u need to jack your car up, remove the protective plastic plate on the drivers side, and wedge foam pads in between the fuel lines immobilizing it. i used cable ties to make sure they couldn't move.
after doing this, the rattle went away permanently.

    Golf R Fuel Line Rattle

My Golf R was fixed by Austral. Took it in with that annoying rattle, diagnosed by one of the techs and booked to fix.
    Since the fix, no rattle!

All fixed by VW. Ill-fitting fule line was the reason on the report.
