Sure, maybe what I should have said is that engine mapping and DSG mapping are separate items. The ECU is just a computer. i have recently been battling through ECU issues in my GF's Peugeot 206 GTi, they were smart enough to break down the brains over 2 modules which need to be keyed alike to work. Can't just swap one out...

Can I just say that the issue was not there when I was on the stage 2 map with a Carbonio intake.
The Carbonio isn't really an intake, the stock air box assembly has baffles etc in it to help reduce the noise coming back through the system from the BOV/diverter valve etc, wacking on a pretty carbon piece to the front of it really isn't doing much (compared to complete replacement of the system with VWR/etc). So it may have been there but hidden away a bit (as Candyman says, under the right conditions he can get his stocker to do it, I guess the sound is just a bit more subtle with the stock air-box/filter assembly vs the complete intake replacement).

It look to me in the vid that during acceleration you would lose boost not a gear change loss in rpm. If your applying throttle you should have no boost loss if you do something's wrong!! No car flutters or loses boosts while accelerating. Never seen it on any stock standard golf old or new!!!

The R uses the engine cover as an airbox, so the Carbonio is just a fancy new snorkel piece to the existing airbox(stage 2 I think does rid the engine cover entirely and so is as you have described).

Ah right, my bad. I have the stage 2 intake system on my GTI which makes the turbo induction noise and blow-off/compressor flutter pretty loud compared to stock, which has made the apparent wastegate leak or whatever it is considerably louder
