Golf R - Error Stabilisation Control ESC - HELP!

** Problem Solved - Dead Battery**

    Happy new year everybody

So it's not been the best start to 2016..... went to start my mk6 Golf R (DSG) about an hour ago and it won't turn over..... when i turn the key i can here a clicking sound but nothing apart from a few 'beeps' from the dash and an error message.

The first time i tried it i got an "Error Stabilization Control ESC" message along with most of the warning lights showing. I then went back 10 minutes later and got the same clicking noise with no engine start, but this time the message i got was "Move Selector Lever to Position P/N!" which can be seen in this video i recorded.

    https://youtu.be/Gq0fgv5mUBk

I checked and the gear stick was in P, so i tried switching it through the gears then back into P, turned the key again but same result.

This is the first time i've had an issue like this and i'm just wondering if anyone has experienced the same thing.

The car has had an APR stage 1 for well over a year and a half and the Stage 2+ was installed over 4 months ago. I've read a few threads where people have had a similar issue in the UK and it doesn't seem likely that the mods would have caused the issue.... is this true? Am i likely to have warranty issues getting this fixed seeing that i've modded the car?

The only thing that i can think of that may have caused the issue is a couple of weeks ago some scumbag tried breaking into the car.... both front doors were slightly bent where someone had wedged them to try and stick in a coat hanger to open the doors. Obviously that didn't work but i had to take the car in to a panel beater to straighten out the doors and they had to replace the plastic trim down the side as they cracked it on both doors.

I'm wondering if the panel beater has tripped something when they worked on the doors?

The other thing that i can think of would be a dead battery..... not sure if i would get the lights coming on if it was dead?

Anyway, any advice would be appreciated as i really can't be shelling out loads of cash on this.

Any recommendations on which dealers are welcoming to cars that have been modded? If it is something that can be claimed on warranty i really don't want screwing because i've done a few mods.

    Cheers

    Will

Getting the selector lever position error. Would sugfest that it is in the control unit for the selector.

(E.g Vehicle thinks it's in drive when selector is in park)

Our volvo trucks at work have this issue often and the selector unit needs to be replaced.

First thing I would do is try and jumpstart the car mate, sounds ALOT like a flat battery.

If that doesn't work, then try turning the headlight switch to the 'on' position and start the car, if that works then you need a new selector unit.

Not sure on what click you're getting, but if you turn the key trying to start it and all dash lights come on but you hear no clicking noises at all (like starter trying to turn) then remove your airbox and check the gearbox earth cable, they sometimes break apart, causing a no start, no crank, no nothing but dash lights .

P.S: Your video is set to private so none of us can watch it unless we are signed in.

My Money is here too. Hook up the donor vehicle and leave it idling for 5-10 minutes to put some juice in your batter. Then go for the start.

Probably find a million voltage error codes in the controllers and the APR may have gone back to std power.

    Thanks for the feedback guys

I found a couple of forum threads this morning where people had identical issues and replaced the battery which sorted it out.

So i called VW Assist and they said i still had cover with them and the car was still under warranty. They came out within 15 mins and found the battery needed replacing. Put in a new one and i didn't have to pay anything. Very happy/relieved!

I've set the video to public so you can see/hear what sounds/error messages i was getting - might be useful to someone in the future that may have a similar problem. At first i didn't suspect the battery because my headlights were still coming on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gq0fgv5mUBk

Interesting point on the APR tune getting reset - how do i check to find out..... and are there any risks if i drive it whilst the tune has reset? It was APR stage 2+ with VW Racing CAI, APR HPFP, APR DP & Miltek CB
