Golf R Clutch Replacement - Diesel Clutch?

My 2010 Golf R is due for a clutch replacement in the near future. There isn't too much information out there, given there aren't too many manuals out there, at least with 100k+ on them.

I've been talking to my mechanic, and he has suggested looking into putting a diesel clutch in the car. I would like to retain the dual mass flywheel without adding too much pedal effort either.

I've read about people changing to a solid flywheel and getting an annoying ticking noise, which I really don't want. I need something that will handle Stage 2+ power and feel close to stock.

The stock clutch sometimes slips in the higher gears, on the big torque hits. The DMF is also starting to fail as the clutch is sticking halfway down when on twistie runs.

I doubt you'll find a diesel clutch will handle the grunt of your R.

If the std clutch has done anywhere over 75k, I'd just stump up for a new std one if you want the DMF to remain. If that's not on your radar, there's tons of uprated stuff available.

    Look to the States.

You should be prepared to be out 2-3K installed I reckon.

My standard clutch has 117,000kms on it, and it's been running stage 2+ (GIAC Extreme) since 20,000kms.

Surely I can buy a new DMF, and just run an upgraded friction disc and clutch cover. South Bend do a "drop in" clutch disc replacement, wonder if this is the way to go with a new DMF and clutch cover? Just looking for something to get the job done, and not really interested in putting anything overkill in, like a puck.

2-3k should be about right. My last 2 services have been 1.7k. Expensive toys these things...

Sachs make a heavy duty version of the stock clutch (stock clutch is Sachs too).

Otherwise the Audi TTRS clutch works and fits....one of the companies in USA sell a kit (i think its HSTuning).

Excellent. I will look into both of these as they sound like good options!

    Here are the links:

Works out around $750 AUD (after removing the 19% VAT tax) plus shipping: https://www.sachsperformance.com/sac...uctstl6rr096r4

Works out around $1,300 AUD plus shipping: HS Tuning RSR 2.0T Clutch Kit - HSTRSR1

The Sachs Performance clutch is probably all you will ever need in a stage 2+ setup, although may struggle if you ever decide to upgrade the turbo.

The TTRS clutch from HS Tuning (they don't advertise that its the TTRS clutch, but it is) is probably a safer bet if you drive hard (launches etc) and think you might ever upgrade the turbo.

In that case, I think the TTRS clutch would be the safer option. It's probably best to have the safety margin of that clutch too. 1.3k plus the cost of a new DMF. Thanks for those links. I'll see what the mechanic reckons!

Maybe check out Darkside Developments - Home and see what they've got. I'm on my 4th clutch and the kits from them have always fitted perfectly.
I'd sling them a message asking "Does this fit?" - uprated TDI clutches are usually good for 550Nm+!

Also, yes, can confirm that the single mass causes an interesting noise. Doesn't matter much on the diesel, just adds to the mechanical feel of it!
