Golf R: Check Engine Light (CEL)

    Hi Folks,

Tuesday after work, jumped into the Golf R going home, and the catalytic converter warning light came on solid. same symbol like this in picture.

Manual says I need to drive car slowly to the nearest mechanic to get it checked. and engine misfiring blah blah....

The car is APR stage 2+ ECU tuned with VWR intake, APR HPFP, APR RSC exhaust. Everything else is stock. Mods was done nearly half year ago, never experienced any issue before.

Driving feels no different so far, tried push hard also. Not like someone mentioned losing power sort of thing.

I am thinking of taking the car in to the mechanic who did the mods and serviced the car to have it checked early next week.

Posting here to discuss if anyone experienced this before. and what was the problem.

    Cheers.

You can't speculate what the fault is. Take it in or find someone with VCDS to scan it for you. It'll be a hardware fault not the software.

get it scanned first, invest in a VAGCOM cable.

that light can mean a few things.

    Thanks.

Seems like the light meaning is quite general, did a quick search, found out loose gas cap, O2 spacer, brake vaccum sensor, engine piston, intake manifold were mentioned. Yes, I will take it in to find out.

I bought a Bluetooth OBD2 adaptor from Ebay and use the Torque app - Android, I think there is a similar one for Apple junk as well.
Works a treat, cleared codes I had before the tune with the catless dump pipe I had.
Also give you some good gauges to monitor your car and other stuff.
I use it on my other car as well.
