The MK7 Golf was due out in early 2012 in Europe, but has been delayed for 8 months to the end of 2012 in Europe to capitalise on the World Car of the Year and World’s Safest Vehicle awards.
Aus should see the MK7 in early 2013, with the new MK7 GTI out 6 months later in late 2013, followed by the Golf R 3-6 months later in early 2014.
A late 2013 MK7 GTI release will give me 3.0-3.5 years with the current model, which is fine by me.
MK7 power increases over the MK6 will be minimal, with Volkswagen rather concentrating on reducing fuel consumption, as they have done with the MK6 models.
Similar thing with BMW M-Power and Merc AMG ... fuel consumption will become a stronger theme rather than performance. It's becoming socially uncool to be using the world's natural resources.
Even Maserati and Ferrari indicate that they cannot continue to build vehicles that average around 20 litres plus in real world driving.
