My research on the net and via Aus and UK magazines indicate that the new A3 Audi is due out in Europe in late 2011 and early 2012 for Aus.

The MK7 Golf was due out in early 2012 in Europe, but has been delayed for 8 months to the end of 2012 in Europe to capitalise on the World Car of the Year and World’s Safest Vehicle awards.

Aus should see the MK7 in early 2013, with the new MK7 GTI out 6 months later in late 2013, followed by the Golf R 3-6 months later in early 2014.

A late 2013 MK7 GTI release will give me 3.0-3.5 years with the current model, which is fine by me.

MK7 power increases over the MK6 will be minimal, with Volkswagen rather concentrating on reducing fuel consumption, as they have done with the MK6 models.

Similar thing with BMW M-Power and Merc AMG ... fuel consumption will become a stronger theme rather than performance. It's becoming socially uncool to be using the world's natural resources.

Even Maserati and Ferrari indicate that they cannot continue to build vehicles that average around 20 litres plus in real world driving.

    Cheers.

    LOL

Back from Holidays and no new news here but my dealer has been told at least some of their allocations as I was offered a car today, but not close enough to the spec I want.

As for a lot of the talk in here, fark the reviews and peoples overly analytical opinions. Talk of fuel economy cracks me up. These car's sip fuel as it is, what the hell difference does 0.2L/100km make? Doesn't anyone buy cars just because they have to have it? My best and most enjoyable cars were bought on that reason alone. I'm not expecting perfection, but I know I'll be have a farken lot of fun until whatever else comes along and replaces it!

Finally a post from you I can fully agree on. My reading aligns with everything you've stated there

    Dear Dave
Amen! I must say that there seems to be quite a bit of nit picking going on here. To me the only real decision was whether I wanted a R 20 or not!. I have just sold my r36 purely because it did not, for me, measure up to my former ride and that was the mark 5 GTI.
I will probably be shot down but it just lacked the fun factor.
My order is in with the dealer and I am told that it will be here in June.......so bring it on!!!!!!!!

Thanks for that, I had not seen that pdf before so is new to me! I could've probably looked for it but 1100 odd posts to sift through!!!! this topic is hot!

Anyway looking at most of the options I'd want takes the list close to $68,000 (if working off old R32 prices subtracting leather) so my once 100% sure decision I was going to get an R is now waning and given I have a family and sometimes need space am leaning towards the R36, test drove it and love the V6 snarl. Anyway probably won't make a decision till I can see the R and drive it. Thanks guys, finding the info here useful

My dealer confirmed today that the Rs are now 3 weeks away from being released .... VWA and the dealers are in the process of matching dealer pre-orders (ie. customer orders like myself) with the initial batch of Rs that have already been delivered or are on their way already.

If there is a R in the initial batches that matches your order you will have it in June ...... otherwise its a 3+month way I'm afraid.
