have you got any updates on your price Dave - I think it will be tough with that spec, although xenons std right? I agree S3's are an alternative although the shape is getting old new and new model out in about 12 mths or so. Don't they say you are lucky to get 50% or less resale value back on options? Interested to see the quote from AVC, only reason I didn't use them last time was I found a car in stock at a dealer with the spec I wanted and they were very keen to deal.

Yeah, look both yourself and dave-, have good points. It could be argued back and forth, and it also needs to be apples to apples. A 2nd hand car is always going to make more financial sense than a new one.

The thing is, I have a certain set of things I'd like in my next car. Based on R32 prices, and with a 10% discount, this is going to be over $70k. But, back to my previous post, getting those same features from a 135i is still going to be just over $90k even after the negotiation with them. So yeah, the 135i might be a better car, but it's also quite significantly more.

I could attempt to get a 2nd hand 135i (and hey, there are still a lot of 'low Ks' 135is out there around $90k - eek!), but if I'm going to compromise on my requirements, then I may as well just apply those compromises to my R (or 2nd hand R32 purchase) and I'm still come out in front. So I figure any way you look at it, going to an S3 or 135i, new or 2nd hand, what you want, or compromised, is still going to be more.

Nah, no official info yet so we haven't bothered to discuss in great detail.

I still think it will be too expensive for what is really an awd GTI, and still not as good as BMW/Audi. I got a GTI as it will be just as good around town for 90% of the time and couldn't be bothered with all speculation and waiting.

I think that if some of the speculation is correct and it is only $10k more than the GTI - it'll be worth it

Yeah it may be good but once you add the same options would be more than 10k.

Also being more planted to the road means you have to so higher speeds to get the same thrill.

No no... $10k base, the option prices are the same... although yeah, LCT does stick it's ugly head into the mix at a point, but changing to any other car (S3, 135i etc) is even worse from that point.

I mean base price would be an extra 10k then you'd have to add the options and if you get more than one or two you're up for more luxury tax.

Found my AVC quote for the GTI when I was thinking about it in December... Candy White, 3dr DSG with Leather and sunroof. $49400. Not great.

The resident dealers would be sitting here laughing with all this price talk...

Agree 100% Greg .... but when it eventually gets here and all is revealed, you will have a tinge of regret .... GTI though is awesome value (if options are kept reasonable)
