Yeah, look both yourself and dave-, have good points. It could be argued back and forth, and it also needs to be apples to apples. A 2nd hand car is always going to make more financial sense than a new one.
The thing is, I have a certain set of things I'd like in my next car. Based on R32 prices, and with a 10% discount, this is going to be over $70k. But, back to my previous post, getting those same features from a 135i is still going to be just over $90k even after the negotiation with them. So yeah, the 135i might be a better car, but it's also quite significantly more.
I could attempt to get a 2nd hand 135i (and hey, there are still a lot of 'low Ks' 135is out there around $90k - eek!), but if I'm going to compromise on my requirements, then I may as well just apply those compromises to my R (or 2nd hand R32 purchase) and I'm still come out in front. So I figure any way you look at it, going to an S3 or 135i, new or 2nd hand, what you want, or compromised, is still going to be more.
