Golf R 3 door/5 door speculation/information thread

When did this change happen? I have the S3 PDF grabbed for VIC about a month or so ago and it still has 188/330?

Checked it now and still there on pg12 ...... and on pg 13 its audi.com.au so its Oz specific ....

No ... in Australia ... download the S3 specs from Audi OZ and on page 12 it states 195kw/350NM for all Australian delivered S3s ... also, whilst the websites mostly still states 188kw/330NM, in fact Aus delivered S3s now come in 195kw/350NM only ... they made no fanfare about it .... kept it quiet ...

Sorry Sharkie, but in this case you are mistaken. I already checked this before your first post that I quoted. If you read correctly the last page of the brochure you linked to, you would see that it states that this is not an Oz specific brochure, and that specifications, details, options etc are not available in all countries.

If you look at the the actual prices and specification guide for NSW (there'll be different ones for each state with different prices), the power is still 188kw/330NM.

It also says Golf R 270pk vs 245pk. I'm not sure what 'pk' means, but if they mean 'PS' (as in Metric Horsepower), 270PS is what the 199KW R is, and 245PS would be close to the figure of what the Stage I ECU upgraded GTI is. With that little difference between them, since it's a rolling start, and a straight line, they should be about equal - which is what the video shows. Eventually the Golf R might start pulling out, but not until the upper limits of the speed.

Hi guys,

Thought I'd step into this fascinating discussion I'm currently in that "which car do I get next" place and am considering the R. Currently have a Mazda 6 MPS, which is why the R is my first choice, similar performance and AWD. Thought I'd add that straight line performance is not what AWD's are really about - yes they'll launch quickly, but what I like the best is it's ability to power out of corners, particularly with loose surface or wet roads. I'm always amazed with the traction levels in these situations. In comparison my wife has a Jetta 147TSI and whilst sometimes I find this quicker off the mark (which is contrary to the manufacturers and magazines 0-100 times) powering out of corners on wet roads introduces significant stepping in of the traction control!

So for AWD standstill accelleration, you really need to punish the driveline to get a quick time, the fun lies in how quickly you power out of corners

Very good point. AWD standstill acceleration is a killer on the drive train! Even the motoring press have admitted in articles that they'd NEVER treat their own cars how they have to treat WRX's and the like to get the 0 to 100 times they publish in their articles. But 0 to 100 is a largely useless figure anyway. It only applies to 'traffic light warriors' who are ok with breaking the law (cause I dont' know many traffic lights in 100kph zones!).

Hey Shakespeare! So thinking of saying goodbye to the 6? I tell you now, I haven't regretted buying my R after the MPS 6 for 1 minute. Even if mine is the R36 variety not the Golf... Be good to have you onboard if you come over to the dark side LOL...

It'll sound exactly like that! Cause listening to the sound of a car, probably recording on some video phone, encoded in the sludge wrapping of youtube, and played back through some notebook speakers is such an accurate representation of reality
