    Max. power: 188 kW @ 6000 rpm
    Max. torque: 330 Nm @ 2400 – 5200 rpm

    and that's from http://www.ausmotive.com/2010/03/24/...l#comment-6515

i thought that we were getting the 188kw with the euro spec 350nm??? if that's the case, i'll probably consider the audi s3, i've heard some people are getting a pretty goood deal on them.

but i read motor mag and it said that we're going to get 188kw and 350nm as the euro spec. oh well i guess it's logical anyway 188kw and 330nm since it's the same engine as the s3.

i honestly was about to buy the R, but i'm having second thought now, might just keep my evo 9 longer. with those spec it's a downgrade for me to go to the golf r esp. if it gets the 188kw and 330nm.

Golf R + APR ecu remap = more power/torque and smoother delivery.

And yes, you make a good point. Our healthcare is one example of a significant benefit we enjoy in Australia.
Import duty is 5 % here... GST is 10%

Sales tax in California can be upto 10.25%

A point of interest... the USA has a 25% tariff on the importation of light trucks (utilities).

Ahhhh, I can remember the days of import quotas AND a 57%+ import duty. You young-uns have it very very easy nowadays.

You dont need to breakdown my comment - you're wasting both of our time.

Point being, we get shafted and I put it down to our lower population combined with taxes such as LCT.

Spot on. Imagine how much more you would save if the LCT was never implemented under Rudd!

The whole point of the LCT I thought was to minimise pollution? as Luxury Cars which produce less then a certain amount of emmisions and L/100KM are excempt. Thats why alot of the Merc/BMW/VW/Audi Diesels in their up market cars get away without having to paying LCT.

Yet VW have gone out of their way this time to make the R alot more fuel effiecent by dropping the V6 and using a 4 cylinder. Yet you still get slugged the Tax.

Its a crock, and I hope/wonder if we vote back in the Liberal Government if they will remove the LCT? or is it here to stay?

EDIT: On a 2nd thought, isnt the threshold for the LCT around 57K? If VW give us the R under 57K, you will prob be able to get an R Drive away with a few options for under the Threshold with abit of haggeling with the dealer.

Come on guys, it is not all down to LCT tax. I hate Rudd as much as the next minimum IQ brain owner but don't tell me an M3 or the new Nissan rocket cost $150k due to taxes only. We're getting shafted by manufacturers to start with, simple as that. The main reason for this? Aussie dollar volatility I reckon. let's say you purchased an R32 3 years ago for $60k when you got $2.5 for one Euro (24k Euros). Right now you pay $1.7 for one EURO and assuming the car cost the same ($24k EURO) the price in Aussie moolah should be say $41,000. Now, you wouldn't be too happy selling your 3 years old R32, would you? If a brand new R is $41k, what does it do for previous models resale value?
If say the Aussie moves the other way the R would cost say $85k instead of $60k. Bad again...
As long as our dollar moves so much and so often compared to $US, Euro and Yen, we'll pay hefty conservative prices for imported cars. Given the size of your economy and the way it is based on resources prices that will last, well, forever.
