Thats was the same reason I optioned it on. The Self Parking thing is a great little party trick. But having the Front and Rear sensors is worth the cost imo.

Do you guys think the best way to get the point across about the 3-door situation is to just let the dealer that you intend to buy through know that if there is no 3-door, then there is no sale?

Would dealers pass this info on to VWA or even care?

If they have brought a 3-door to "gauge interest", then how exactly would they do this? Has VWA done this successfully in the past?

Haven't dealt with them before, hence the (probably stupid) questions...

I was the same, but have changed my tune due to the simple fact that there isn't a single car around $60k that offers such a package. That being handling, performance, comfort and build quality and I don't want to spend another $40k right now to get a 3 door that is all those things.

My dealer is well aware of me wanting a 3dr but I think if the 3dr does get left out, a few other people who said no 5 dr will come around as well. And I think that Karl Gehling prick knows it. So they don't give a ****.

I agree, however if im spending 60K on a car, I want it to be exactly what I want. The same rule applys to the Golf GTI I have ordered. I could have taken a 5 door one on that day if I wanted to.

But I figured if im spending close to 50K on the GTI, I want it to be exactly what I want.

Im not compromising because VWA dont want to import the 3 door. Stuff them. Ive ordered a 3 door GTI, and I know ill love it once it arrives.

If they can offer me a 3 door R though, ill be tempted to pay that bit extra to get it.

3 Door hatches are not popular in Australia because of people with families and alike. But have they stopped and thought what kind of people will be buying a Golf R? I really cant imagine a mum or dad packing the kids into the Golf R with the Recaro seats...

I am a single guy, and I dont have kids, and do not want kids. So the 3 door is perfect. And I have a feeling that most of the R buyers will be Blokes and a fair amount of them will be ones without kids they have to worry about. Or if they do, they will get the Tiguan to run the kids around in, and have the R for weekends.

It just doesnt seem to work.

But I suppose VWA are the ones with the sales figure numbers, and if they have desided that the 3 Door R is not worth importing, its all based on the fact they didnt sell with the R32.

But at the same time, what is a 3 door doing in the country?

Pardon the astonishment, but are GTIs really 50K australian? What sort of equipment level do you get for that price?

I am in the same scenario and have zero need for the extra doors but as much as I'd like to agree, we are not the target buyers and VWA knows this. Forums are a small customer base so the comments here don't add up to much.

I notice 5dr R32's everywhere and I'd say 80% of them without question are driven by all sorts BUT single childless blokes like us. It has been commented before that a lot of people bought them as they were the top of the range and I think that is very true.

Mate you could buy a new M3 in the states for what we will pay for a Golf R.

    It's ridiculous over here.

(Yes I know its because of the significantly larger market in the US and our taxes)

Its in the signature. and it set me back $48,900

GTI 3 Door with DSG and no options has RRP of around 46K - 47K in Australia without haggeling with the dealer.

Its all relative though. The M3 here in Australia is a 150K Car.

At the same time though... the Nissan GTR is also 150K. I know which one I would choose.
