Either way - that's the first word I've seen of complaints about either of those issues.

Did not say what they got .... and no they did not use launch control.

They were unable to activate it in the normal (GTI std etc) way and the VW reps present at the launch did not know how to turn it on either or in fact if it was even fitted ....

EDIT .... SO I'm betting VW will be doing a Nissan GTR thing in the future and remove Launch Control from its AWD hero car .... its simply too expensive to keep fixing things that break under warranty all the time due to it .....

Well - I finally received an email from Karl Gehling:

Dear Mr xxxx,

Thank you for your correspondence regarding our decision to only release a five-door variant of the Golf R. As you correctly pointed out the decision has been made based on the small demand we have for the three-door model and the need to reduce complexity within our model range.

We do not recommend dealers accept pre-orders until the vehicle details have been confirmed and release to ensure we don’t create the situation you mentioned below.

I am sorry we will not be able to provide you with the model you are after and we hope you will reconsider the five-door once it is released.

That's pretty good that he personally (debateable) wrote to you...
Shame that there'll be no 3 door. I think they're underestimating the amount of only 3 door wanting buyers that are out there..

In your original email, did you ask anything re the Scirocco R being released down here?

You definately wouldn't consider a 5dr?

The market in Australia caterss for 5 doors and familys.
The golf range is already complex enough so i can see their point.

Hopefully you can find what you want in another car (Probably an Audi S3) as most others will be more expensive and not truly comparable with the Golf.

Still can't see what the big deal is about gaining an extra 2 doors but that's just my view.

He didn't, I got the same response this morning.

Bloody pissed off now. I know my dealer has a GTI that is suitable but I'll always know it isn't an R and I don't really want to deal with a company that is basically telling me and my money to f$%k off. Might go look at a TT-S or S3 again heh.

Yeah - I think that they have underestimated the number of 3 door owners that won't go to a 5 door as well.

I didn't mention the Scirocco R, as I'm completely not interested in it. It's 4 seat only, has more limited headroom in the rear, smaller boot, and I'm not necessarily sold on its looks - just looks strange from some angles.

I did speak to a dealer on the weekend who also confirmed that the GTI 3 door will be on the chop. Basically, the reason they aren't going to bring a 3 door R is because they're also getting rid of the 3 door GTI. He said that he would normally think it would be to make way for the Scirocco... but they're also asking them what options they can remove from the options list in the Golf model. So it sounds to me like there are just too many ex-Toyota/Mazda/etc owners coming to VW and being completely confuzzled by the range of choices that they are presented.

I personally think if VW want to simplify things, they should do a 'Luxury' version like many of the other manufacturers are doing now. Put Sunroof, Leather, Sat Nav, Bi-Xenons and PDC in a package at 1/2 to 2/3 the normal option cost - would make things a lot simplier and also help with depreciation etc (if its listed as a specific model and therefore depreciation occurs from the higher purchase price rather than the base). That way people could then option up a few of the less selected options without being too concerned about exccessive depreciation come resale time. But anyway.

I still live in hope that when VW finally make the announcement and get feedback from dealers about people who are only interested in 3 door model, that they'll reconsider.
