What he said, but because I'm sure I'd read last year that info would be released in Feb. Not to mention the fact that my dealer at the time of pre-order informed me that they were being told the final spec and pricing in Feb. I need to pull the finger out and make a call.

Dealer has changed their tune from info in Feb to most likely nothing substantial until mid year....blah!

ahh crap!
With 5+ month waits on the GTI, it's gonna be a long time before i get my new car either way (GTI or R) as i was waiting on more info before ordering the R!

Yeh I wanted to have a GTI contingency order, just in case the R didn't turn out as I wanted but they won't really do it and I don't want to be stuck with 2 cars.

This today on GoAuto. Looks like the R and the GTD should be here mid-year as expected.

“The three-door represents quite a small proportion of (potential) sales for us, so we’re looking at consolidating the line up,” said VGA spokesman Karl Gehling. “At this stage we’re looking only at the five-door.”

Other unique Golf R features will include bi-Xenon headlights, a black grille and wing mirrors, new front and rear bumpers, a gloss-black rear diffuser with twin central exhaust outlets, flared wheel-arches, aluminium ‘R’ scuff plates, blue-needled instruments, gloss-black detailing throughout and sports seats with Alcantara/black mesh cloth trim.

In terms of peak power output, that will put Australia’s Golf R just 4kW ahead of the petrol 3.2-litre V6-powered R32 it replaces.

yeah economy weight and power after modding will all be better, as well as build quality in general.

Does anyone have Karl's email address? If the Golf R isn't available in a 3 door, then I'll buy a BMW instead. Seriously... even the GTI is available in 3 door, so why would you have the even sportier 'hot hatch' only available in 'family form' ?
