    The Golf R has:
    * Leather as standard
    * Xenon as standard
    * Metallic paint as standard.
    * 18" wheels as standard
    * Better brakes
    * Better suspension
    * Different 'body kit', including LED rear lights, LED front DRL, colour coded full length side skirts, different front and rear bumpers etc.
    * Better engine (sure you can flash the ECU of a GTI to get 188kw, the same as an R, but then you can do that to the R and get 240kw)
    * AWD (just not possible on the GTI)

    So with the leather, xenon, metallic paint and 18" wheels, that's already $7k, reducing the diff to $9500.
    The ECU and 'three years warranty' from Oettinger would probably cost you a few hundred more than the APR option. So lets just take another $2000 off that. $7500.
    The better brakes and suspension - well looking at European Autotech's site I can see the GTI's stage I brake upgrade (Brembo) costs $4500, and the Sach's coilover upgrade costs $2999...

    Holy crap, you've only got $1 left, and you haven't even addressed the LED rear tail lights, LED DRL's, and nicer body kit, or the AWD.

    Now sure, the Brembo brakes and Sach's coilover's we've put on the GTI are undoubtably better than the Golf R's standard brakes and suspension, but all I'm saying is, that $16,500 difference between the GTI and the R isn't exactly 'bad value'. It's just a question of what are you looking for?

    Though I don't care for/need the sensors its another one of those things that you expect standard on a ~60k car these days, same goes for the other items you listed which is what my order is based on. If I have to add another ~$3k for leather, then metallic paint and LCT, I would consider cancelling my order and going elsewhere. I don't see value in a $70k Golf.

    Well said, actually have to agree with lots of things you've said in this thread hehe. I think the GTI comparisons have been done to death.

    Well according to Carsales who interviewed some important guy at VW Australia, it looks like alot of the Golf R is going to have alot of options, including leather.

    "Gehling also revealed the Golf R will be offered in only one specification level in Australia but with a number of options available. They will include VW's Adaptive Chassis Control suspension system, leather sports seats, reversing camera, sunroof and 19-inch alloys."

    However there is no mention of Xenons, so it looks like they will be standard.

    We've discussed this so many times in this thread alone.

    Leather 'sports' refers to the Recaro's.

    @Pauly - in another article on Carsales they list a different set of options regarding the seats (leather seats, racing seats) etc. So even Carsales can't make up their mind

    But I've been assured by a VW dealer that VW Australia know what they're doing and people will be happy

    Mate I wouldnt trust a VW dealer or VWA Australia as far as I could boot them!!

    remember the old " There wont be delays on the MK6 GTI golfs" from some Top shot from VWA, yeah what crap that was - people are waiting 6mths atleast for a GTI Golf...

    And a VW Dealer - HAHA I wont even go there

    Well, I know what life would be like if we were all so cynical and negative, so I'm not going to sit here worrying about something which may or may not happen when everything so far is saying it won't.

    I know you're upset that your car is being delayed, but it doesn't mean everything VW does is deceitful and evil. Obviously VW wouldn't be happy about the delay either, as it's much more beneficial for them to be able to get the cars to its customers as quickly as possible.

    Dealers will always talk **** - that's life.

    However I am sure it will come with leather and xenon. And if it doesn't have leather, it would explain a $2k estimated drop in price to make up for it simply to give people the choice.

    I'd be fine with that.

    My dealer is pretty sure it would be the same deal as the R32 - Leather and Bi-Xenons standard.

    Wouldn't worry too much about it.

    Funny how people always justify their choices, but i wouldnt spend 15-20k on options on a GTI.
