Golf R 3 door/5 door speculation/information thread

What do you boys think is worth it?

Golf gti with basically every option added except for leather or 55k ( I love the tartan seats)
or
Golf R with DSG added for about 55k (guessing fom
drive and carsales reviews).

Better off going to a better car than too many options on a GTI (You'd lose less on a basic Golf R IMO...)

55k sounds like a bit low for a GTI with 'basically every option' - there must be a few things missing - that's if you're talking about 'drive away prices' anyway.

But regardless, what do any of our opinions matter? What do YOU want from a car? A fully optioned GTI without leather will have several luxuries that the R won't have. The R will possibly come standard with leather and will be a faster but more basic car than the fully optioned GTI.

So it's up to you.
The only valid thing that we could point out is that if you care about resale, the options on the GTI really won't add much to the price of the car come sale time - whereas the R without options will retain much more of it's purchase price.

The Golf R is still coming across from articles as a bit of a grand tourer & not a real sportscar.. Would still be nice to have one.

now I know there is dealer delivery, stamp duty and rego ontop of that, but I'm assuming that when you make a deal, I should get a discount that will basically wipe off those costs, so that's how I got to the 55k price.

3 door Golf R with DSG, and I'm hoping going off that interview that had with a guy from VW Australia, we should expect it for about the same price 55k.
And by the looks of it xenons do come standard too which is a bonus.
But I would definitly love the 19" rims. So the price is going to keep going up and up and up.

However as you said, resale is going to be a bonus with the R. But I do love the options VW Australia at giving us... So it's hard.

Haha good call! But I have no need for 5 doors. And I think the 3 door looks alot nicer then the 5 door. I'm a single guy, do not want kids or alike. The only 'children' in my car will be my mates when they are too drunk to walk haha.

So the way I see it, 3 door is a nicer choice.

But tossing up between essentially a fully optioned GTI (almost) or a stock standard 3 door R with the only options being DSG, 19" alloys and Maybe ACC.

For a very similar price?

That's fair, I don't have kids either but 5dr looks almost as good and more practical if your circumstances change.

Shame if your mates can't wind down the window if they are about to throw up.

Pauly if you look at my signature you will see a scenario like you are describing.

A $57k almost fully optioned GTI (discounted from $62k) vs an assumed $65k (discounted from $70k) R.

It's really tough. Because both cars are going to be awesome. It's really just tossing up throwing heaps of options onto a car vs resale value vs added performance.

It's tough, because 14k on options alone is pretty crazy.

It's also tough because I'll be going from a car with GPS, awesome sound system and iPod connectivity, to maybe having to ditch those options in favor of a R without those options.

My budget I'm guessing will be at most! 60k. Maybe less.
