One thing's for certain, I won't be giving my money to VW if they see this legitimate segment of the market as expendable.
Do you really think the General Manager of Press and PR is going to announce the potential of a 2-door release, or any actions on the Scirocco R front via an email as opposed to formal press release channels? Its not his decision as to whether these models are released here, its his responsibility to communicate what is available and set expectations appropriately without setting VW up for disappointed customers in future who think they've been lied to.

And as I already mentioned I doubt 2 people, however loyal, would be enough to sway the decision of such a large company. Two people is better than none, of course, but you'd need a lot more evidence of interest to really make them take notice.

I'm not suggesting that time was wasted by emailing the guy but I do think its unnecessary to think his response was a bad one when it was really quite reasonable. He's just doing his job.

All that said - I think there's definitely more than two people around here who are hoping to get their hands on a 3-door R so I'd suggest getting as many of them as possible together to make a better case... can't hurt.

I am sure the buyers in the USA and Canada say the same thing. They get the same coloure range as here

Mazda MPS3 buyers dont get the full range of colours either.

As an aside. Mazda just dropped the 3 door version of the Mazda2. Maybe Australians just don't really like 3 door cars

It's because Australians are too bloody concerned about having a family and the best house on the street

Oh guys, come on, all this wingeing about door numbers... As far as I'm concerned, mine should have at least one so I can get behind the wheel! Is there any difference in how they drive, is 3 or 5 door any faster? No? That's what I thought.

And sabloke what you say is correct. All I need is 1 door :p
75% of the time that car will only have me in it. 23% of the time I'll have my partner in the car, so having a passenger door, also rather helpful. 2% of the time I'll have 2 or 3 friends in the back.

So, for the sake of that 2% of the time, why should I have to pay $2050 extra for the car, spoil what I think is the better looking option, and also restrict my peripheral vision and be made to feel less comfortable due to the reduced vision and also shorter door trim (and arm rest etc)?

G-rig is right. Australian's are too concerned about the future. I'm not buying this car for a possible family I may or may not have in 5 years, I'm buying it for now.

I also think Australia are too obsessed with 'more is better'. Whether it's size, doors, engine capacity or number of cylinders. How many single men honestly NEED 5 doors on their car? But they pick it anyway because of the 2% of the time that they do have 3 or 4 friends in the car.

    3 door

The 3 door Golf R has been approved for sale in Australia, indicating that at some point in time, the 3 door will be available locally. I anticipate that any 3 door R's that were originally destined for Aus would most likely be diverted to other markets. Once demand is satisfied in on other continents, you may see a few batches of 3 door R's arrive. When? Who knows. Looks like profit on the Golf R is higher in the U.K., given that the Golf R is priced higher than the sister vehicle Audi S3.

In respect to number of doors, if you really want this vehicle you will buy it ... otherwise always have the Audi S3.

    Cheers.

    I agree!

There is also something unique about the three doors that in my opinion will make them more desirable on the used market in the eyes of enthusiasts...Remember the early WRX three doors??!! rare as now.

I agree corying, but also think it would be annoying to have to sell a 2 or 3 years into it for something silly like it didn't have enough doors anymore and wasn't practical. Just lose more money swapping over too regularly and they look almost as good anyway IMO.

WJ has a good point too, if you really wanted one the number of doors shouldn't stop you, just think about awd + turbo in a golf, what everyone has been waiting for.

True, but if you knew you weren't having kids in the next 5 years (or ever) then really that's not a concern is it
