Do what I'll probably do then, be happy with the Golf GTI, APR chip it etc and keep it for a couple of years. Once the Rs have been out a couple of years pick one up cheaper second hand. Best of both worlds.
I guess that's the problem Corey - what if on the R they actually do not negotiate on the initial shipment.
But perhaps you are right. I actually didn't realise MKVI GTI pricing was released only 2 weeks prior to launch.
I still would not feel totally comfortable letting the GTI go when no firm pricing has been released.

Using the spreadsheet Corey, i've selected the following.
Golf R
DSG
5 Door
MDI
Sunroof
Metallic ($0 cost)
Leather ($0 cost)
Xenon ($0 cost)
$70,264 assuming no discount.
I'm hoping to be out the door for $65k - and if that's the case I will be happy.
Actually, if I could get RNS510 included for $67,500 total.. i'd probably stump up the extra $2500 also.

Yeah - that sounds reasonable. About my only concern is whether leather will be included or not. I have a feeling that the reason the car might be 'cheaper' than an R32, is because it won't include leather as standard but will be optioned.
Drive have posted their 'first drive' of the R.
It's interesting in that they say:
Cloth seats with heating? And then...Inside, Volkswagen Individual (the department responsible for the German brand's R-Line models) adds heated sports seats trimmed in a mix of black and grey fabric.
So both 'leather seats' AND 'racing-style seats' will be an option.Volkswagen Australia has confirmed it will offer the Golf R in one trim level but with a number of options available. They will include leather seats, racing-style seats, sunroof, 19-inch alloy wheels and reversing camera.
If this is true, this _could_ be a good thing for all of those who are not happy with the 'leather / vinyl' blend that VW use. You could go out and get aftermarket leather, but not give up the heated seats etc.
I also noticed this:
This is certainly a good change that should make a LOT of people here happy. If it turns out to be true, then some of the 'manual hold-outs' here who have sited that as the reason they'd not drive a DSG... well, might just option the DSG this timeOne positive is the change to the latest iteration of VW's DSG automated manual dual-clutch transmission that all-but-eradicates the initial hesitation on take-off. This is a bugbear of ours and a fault that has plagued this form of transmission in the past.![]()
Interesting article...
Talk of prototypes Tiguan and Polo R's....

A Polo R hey?!
I wonder whether there is really a market for that in Australia (or more importantly, a large enough one to justify bringing it here). Say the 'Polo GTI' comes here with the 118TSI motor and costs about $28990 (I'm figuring with an engine which is 14 years newer than the current Polo GTI and the increase in base spec, that there will be a price increase). So just say the Polo R is only $5k more than the GTI, it'd then only be $5k less than the Golf GTI. (all of these are RRPs and not inc onroads). Just thinkin' out loud![]()
Hey guys, I just found this review on the Golf R, nice to see it on the track

Engine definitely sounds pretty nice based on that clip
Thanks for posting!
Are they the standard 18" rims on that car in the abov review? Or are they the optional 19" alloys.
Alot of the boys on here are forgotting that all the press photos
thus far have the 19" alloys on the car. So if you want it to look like that, remember you will be paying extra for those too.
Yup I fell for that Pauly.
Hopefully $1200 gets you the upgrade to 19" as the 18" are for the GTI.
