Push harder but be cool with your dealer. I must say that my experience with my current supplier has been quite positive . He sent me an e mail yesterday and was able to tell me that my car is currently at Port Kembla and really it is now up to VWA as to when official release date is. I was able to confirm this using the vin number given to me. It seems that mid June is still the go. Good luck and i hope you get what you want!

It's not about pushing harder. If they can't find stock that matches the specification I want then not much they can do unfortunately

What spec have you managed to secure?

    Impressive.

However, generally speaking, while a manual Golf takes longer to reach 100km/h than a DSG Golf, the sensation of acceleration in between gear changes is no less: maximum accelerative force is just reduced for a little longer during gear changes in the manual than in the DSG.

So before being overly influenced by this demonstration, people might want to consider how often, in normal driving conditions, they accelerate, at full throttle, from standstill, and/or through more than one or two gears at a time.

Accordingly, for many drivers, the 0-100km/h time difference between the two transmissions may in most circumstances be a moot point. And there is also the extra $2,500 which, apart from anything else, would eliminate any fuel savings and, for some, the additional enjoyment they derive from driving a true manual.

However, even for a committed manual driver, all it takes is a slight hankering for a self-shifter, an admiration for technology, or the sheer brilliance, not to mention better fuel economy, of the DSG gearbox, for them to be extremely tempted indeed. Though, of course, the fuel economy benefits might not be as tangible if driving for the performance benefits.

Whatever the case, it seems that the stick-shift's days are numbered (witness the new Polo GTI) which, by eliminating choice and the concomitant decision, will make us all happier in the long run, and what price can you put on that?

So by the time of the Mark VII, it may well be vale manual . . . Viva la DSG!

In the meantime, I'd rather leave the extra $2,500 on the mortgage and get a DSG when my (dead clammy) hand is forced (off the gear shift)!.

DSG is only quicker to 100km/h using launch control. And how often 1.) can you use this & 2.) are you going to use this. In day to day driving the manual is quicker as the hesitation off the line negates any advantage the DSG has in shifiting between gears .... and you only have to shift once in the manual ......

R's DSG is supposed to be better off the line than any DSG previously, but as UK R owners have reported still not perfect.

I'd have to drive them both before making a final decision. I've driven a MK6 118TSI DSG quite extensively and dont like it .... as smart as it is I can and often do catch it off-guard, which never happens to me in a manual .....

I agree with Sharkie and prefer the control i have over the car in a manual.

Also using launch control will severely limit the life of your clutch/transmission system so the maunal in most circumstances will be quicker.
