I must say I am pretty pissed off with the delays in announcing pricing. It's become beyond the joke.

The cars are here. There is massive interest in the vehicle but still they haven't announced pricing.

I don't understand what they are losing by letting us know official pricing at this point in time.

Even if the car is not due for release until the 15th June, the car's are being seen all over the place.

Enough hype and lets get some bloody pricing already VWA!

(My GTI is due to arrive in the country this Wednesday with delivery on the 20th May btw - I want pricing now dammit!)

Settle down. This isn't anything new. VW never announce the pricing until 1 to 2 weeks before the official launch date. If that launch date IS June 15th, we're still way too early. We haven't even seen official pricing on the Polo yet (that I've seen), and it's being released this weekend....

As has been discussed before, VW Australia may not even know the base price yet. They could still be sorting that out with head office etc.

Yep its a disgrace. My GTI will be here in the next week or so, makes it very hard to plan.

My contact tells me first week of June, and not only will there be no C+ discount, there will be no discounting at all. So from my point of view, a 5dr with DSG and a few options is going to tip into the mid $60's which is just way to much above a GTI. And thats assuming the release price is about $3k cheaper than an R32.

Whilst I appreciate that you both have orders in for the GTI and would like to know the details of the new car asap, I really don't see how it is a disagrace. It's just normal. It'd be like having a whinge because Apple haven't released the price and details for the iPhone 4G, even though everyone has already seen it and knows it exists. Or any other new product from any other new company for that matter...

Im not sure comparing a prototype product that isnt on sale anywhere to a car that is onsale in most countries is legit. And just because its normal for VWA doesnt mean its correct. They released the spec, therefore they know the price. The spec was ordered to price.

I do take your point that this situation is exagerated by the fact that some of us have cars on the way.

But let me say this. VWA are about to lose a sale altogher. Im falling out of love with the GTI before I even have it so the fact I dont have all the info I need to make a decision means the longer it goes on the more likely I am to pass my GTI onto someone else when it arrives and look at other options. Just my 2c.

I'm sure someone else will buy your GTI, so I don't see VW Australia caring too much, nor changing.

Also, just because the spec is released doesn't mean the price has been finalised. Unless the car industry is different to other industries, this situation happens all the time.

But on the topic of cars and prices, I don't see other manufacturers releasing prices months before cars are available for sale, regardless of whether they're already available overseas or not. So why should VW?

No im learnign this about VW. They dont care about their customers because they have a backlog of orders. You're just another number with a cheque in your hand.

Not too many auto companies release spec and price so far apart. Usually they are released together. I don't believe for one second that VW don't know what price they will be selling the R for. Ide say they would have known for months.

Mate... again... they haven't even released the official spec.

Sure, they've informed the dealers of a "spec summary" on what VW Australia believe the car will be. But they haven't officially release the "final complete specifications" and they haven't released anything to the public!!! We only know because there are enough people here who are friendly enough with the dealers that the information has been put on these forums.

I think you need to step back a bit and think about what you're saying some more. This situation is no different from any other car company who has a new model on the way. I strongly believe, in this situation only, it is you that is not being reasonable, not VW Australia.

Corey I see merit in all points outlined above including your own. It's nothing new as you say - but I just want what I want.

While I understand that this may be common practice for VWA, I just find it very odd that we're at the point of seeing cars on the road (for reviews etc) and still have no pricing. What I don't get is how releasing pricing would hurt VWA unless they're deliberately drumming up further interest to reinforce setting a higher than expected asking price. I suppose announcing too early and they run the risk of losing out on 100's of thousands of dollars in extra revenue. If they know the car will sell anyway, why not ask more? Hmm.. maybe I just answered my own point.

Hehe - I'm not sure it's that sinister.

I think it's more of a case that if you've released pricing and specs, the next complaint would be "well if you know all the details, why can't I order it now?". Then the next complaint would be "well, if I can order it now, why don't all the dealers have models in stock for demonstration and floor stock for immediate purchase"....
