I would strongly disagree that the S3 interior is 'better' than the MK6 Golf interior. There were arguments for an against between the S3 and the MKV, but the MK6 is definitely an improvement over the S3. The A3/S3 is really due for a refresh now that the MK6 is out.

Also - do you have a source which shows that Audi have a better resale than VW when it comes to the A3 vs the Golf? The impression that I've had from reading local Audi and VW sites, and redbook/carsales etc is that the A3/S3's resale is not as good as the Golf as they're essentially a similar car yet the Audi has a decent premium with the new prices. The fact Audi has such a huge margin in the A3/S3 prices helps and hurts at the same time. People can get $15k+ discounts on a new S3 so other people who didn't get much discount have no chance of getting a good recoup on their cars come sale time.

you have to much time lol

never meant as "better" but the golf 5 interior was pretty average imo. the mkv gti did absolutely nothing for me when i was considering one hence the decision to not own one! audi's always overpriced, but it is a premium car as they call it. mk6 is a facelifted mk5 in and out.. but audi is due for a refresher yes.

    -note, way to much.

this will be an endless thread. i have no sources, apart from dealing directly with 2 dealers daily...

Fair enough - just wanted to know whether what you were saying was some known fact, or just you're opinion

You will all just have to wait and see.
But I've heard it will be similar price to R32.

Exactly. VW have said 'cheaper', but even if it comes in the same price as an R32, that means $61,700 on the road for the 3 door manual and go up from there. That's obviously before negotiation. But there is no way in hell VW are going to make the car $3,300 to $5,300 more expensive as fuzion was suggesting. That'd be a big damper on sales!

Would it still be $61,700 on the road with the LCT also included now?

Yep, that includes the rego, CTP, dealer delivery, GST, the new 33% LCT and stamp duty (it's for NSW - VIC will be slightly higher since you guys pay more stamp duty on cars over $57k)

Yeah, otherwise you'd just get an S3 or R36.

I also don't think Audi resale is as spectacular as he was making out either.. You pay more up front, options are a lot more, servicing etc.. Agree the S3 interior was a lot nicer than the MK5 but has dated a bit (although i dont really have a problem with it). MK6 is really just a facelift though, we shouldn't forget that.

Personally I don't see it as a simple face lift. MKV to MKVI.

Sure most of the 'stuff' underneath is the same, but the body and interior do look very different.

The interior in particular. A significant improvement over the MKV and S3.

So I may as well post this info I've been sitting on for a while....

I've heard from an 'anonymous dealer' that since the R32 was a 6-cylinder, and the new R is going to be a 4-cylinder, due to the Australian-market-views (or something like that), the R may end up with only about a $10,000 premium over the GTI.

That would mean a 3dr manual Golf R would be $48,990 + options + onroads, ranging up to the 5dr DSG Golf R for $52,990 + options + onroads.

Anyway take it for what it's worth - but sounds like VW Australia are still carefully considering the placement of the R in Australia. It could also put some merit in these claims that there won't be any negotiation on the R at all, for obvious reasons.
