Agree it looks more plain and the GTI is good enough ( and best bang for buck).
Fresh review for those interested. 2012 Volkswagen Golf R - European Car Magazine
For me, the R has a much nicer profile due to the bodykit. Plus it gets the LED running and tail lights.
The sides of the GTI are a little plain without any kit but I really like the red highlights (grill, leather stitch etc).
The interior of the R is too plain in that respect but it's hard to choose. I love them both.
If I stick with the GTI I will be looking for a lower kit that looks OEM and not like some ricer.

Well... as I was driving along the Eastern Distributor going past Sydney Airport yesterday, I looked over my left shoulder and saw a Candy White Golf R sitting in the Mascot dealership's car park. I don't know what the official release date is yet, but it really can't be that far off.
I'm told that dealers are flying to Canberra? this week for the official launch of the new Polo (which I believe is this Saturday, the 8th). Maybe the Golf R will launch officially at the same time? I sure hope so.![]()
I heard 15th of June for the R.
