Just had a regas of the system - so much better now. Must be rubbish gas used at the factory
Could be a better thread to post in, but I have a Polo which I find the air cond to work fine, except lately its making a squeak type noise under the front passenger seat somewhere, thought it was a shock absorber or suspension related but apparentely its air cond releated. If you turn air cond to recirculate instead of auto, the noise goes away. Vw told me I can here the gas for the air cond and it will always be there, thing is, I've only heard it in the last few months.

As an owner of a Subaru Forester and a new mk7 Golf my observation is that the Forester (and the Camry before that) has the better air-con simply because it starts cooling instantly (and actually feels colder any time) whereas the Golf takes a minute or two to become really effective. My wife complains about the time wait all the time now the weather has heated up. On the negative side is the Forester shat its compressor at 200,000km so maybe the Golf might turn out to have the better system in the long run.

It's going back a while, but we took our grandkids up to Tullamarine to catch a flight on ash Wednesday. We were going up the Geelong freeway past Avalon and the temp readout was 48.5. We were in our Mk 5 2.0TDI, and crapping ourselves that car or a/c would **** itself. We had climate control set on 23c. We were cool, temp gauge did not change from 90c, and everything worked perfectly. I was rapt that this little German, was able to cope with such punishment. I've no reason to expect our Mk 6 GTD to be any different.
Hi all
am thinking of buying a used Series 6 GTI and was wondering how effective the AC was?
Does it cool down the car well in the hot Sydney, Brisbane days?
cheers
My Mk6 GTI is for sale if you care to have a look. A/C works just fine but any car is going to struggle in 40c heat especially if you park in the sun for hours on end. I do my upmost to park in the shade every day which helps keep the car much cooler and keeps it away from the suns damaging rays.
I have a mark 6 GTI and no complaints from the air con or the cars cooling system. During the extreme heat wave of Sydney, I sat in peak hour traffic for over an hour ever day with the outside air temp sitting about 50 and the engine temp didn't rise and the AC worked a treat. I think VW engineer them for such extreme temperatures when they design them as they pretty much sell them anywhere in the world. I'm sure VW are confident they can handle just about anything when they hit the market.
Bumping this rather than starting a new one.
Is there air compressor supposed to make a noise when you turn the A/C on in the car? Mine doesn't and from memory most of my cars have done so
