Golf Mk6 - Is Rust Proofing Necessary

Hi. I live near the ocean, the car will be garaged and i intend to keep the car for many years.

Will it be a benifit to rust proof a new Golf or will the car from the factory be suitable for salt air near the ocean.

I have always had my new cars rust proofed underneath , in the doors etc. , maybe the latest cars are a lot better now for rust protection.

This is a great forum, Thanks

It shouldn't be necessary for car these days with 12 year perforation warranties.

most new cars from europe or intended for sale in europe are treated to prevent corrosion.

just keep your paintwork protected with regular washes and wax

    Thanks for you replies.

I had a look at painting the golfs on you tube. I can see now that there will be no need for the rust proofing as they submerge the whole car in paint.

I am retired and i would like the car to see me out, only i dont know how long that will be ?

For my older age i have added ; park assist, front and rear sensors, rear view camera, and sat. nav.

We have a Forester and a Honda Jazz and my intention was to keep the Forester but my wife wants her Jazz ,
so the Forester will have to unfortunately go.

The 98 Fotester has been a wonderful car with great vision all around, much better vision than the newer models.
I hope the Golf 118tsi with the extras will be as good as the 98 Forester, for lasting ability and for vision.

    Again, thanks for the replies.

I was told all sorts of magic rust preventage gimics when buying my last two cars. Even to a magic gizmo to connect to the battery!!

What got up my nose, were products to protect the paint. OK. If I was always going to park on the street, and UNDER TREES, perhaps some requirement. Also in case I was a beach bum. But like you am happily retired, and living in Southern Highlands, so why promote these items? (in an area away from the sea)

Front and rear sensors, combined with the rear view camera now make parking a doddle. Very glad I included these items.
However have yet to even try out parking assistance!

Have only done about 9000K on my 118TSI, but the enjoyment still increases.
