Yeah, 15% is a good deterrent. I think in NSW it is 5% penalty.

I have heard that a BMW dealer also said they would sue for not taking delivery - under the 'specific performance clause' or something like that.. I suppose a BMW is pretty hard to move (a 135i cab i think it was) so no wonder they were so keen to move it out of the dealer....

For a Golf GTI or R, probably not worth that effort given that it would sell at the drop of a hat (provided right colour and not too highly specd)

as i said before this is my first time to buy a new car,i heard from my friend, it should get some discount from dealer,he used to got 10%,i told my sale consiltant this,he said because my friend is buying a luxury car so it works, because i am buying a cheaper one,so it will not work, yes i signed it, but no one ever told me to read the back side of the contract, even the sale consiltant did not tell me there is no cool off period.
I just got a question how much is the maxium for a sale consiltant allowed himself to give to a customer as a discount?
the sale consiltant offer me 400 discount himself and i asked for another 40(yes it is 40),and he said i do not know if this price ok,i should check it with my manager, and then he seems to go out for 1 minutes then came back,he said congratulations, and then he give me the paper to sign.i am thinking should he really need to speak for his manager for this 40 dollar?if it is like this,ok i think it is ok for me.

BTW i have decide to not break the constract,i will buy the car.

Am I missing something, but didn't you already get the car with free on roads?
In Queensland that equals over 10% already.

i guess the lesson here is research, research, research.
all too often people jump in without doing their due dilligence when buying items which can turn out to be more expensive than they expect.
buying a car is no exception. saying its ur first car is no excuse, you have the internet nowadays, and i assume u have parents as well as friends that have purchased new cars. u could have easily asked them instead of being hasty with ur purchasing decision.
either way, its done, move on and stop stewing over the car u bought instead of the car that u wanted to buy

Seems reasonable. Can I ask if yours is a 2010 or 2011 build? Which dealer in Brisvegas did you go to. As much as I know you probably like the manual, I would think that, given the very small market for them, they may have sold it cheaper in order to move it. I don't think I have EVER seen a manual Golf R in any dealership.... But as long as you are happy, then that's all that matters!

If you're happy with the price and the car, then the answer is yes.
Did you get the cheapest Golf R on the roads?, then the answer is no.

It's up to you to decide which is more important to you.

I don't think that answer was particularly helpful

I expect most newbies here don't know what the usual discounts are for a Golf and the prices/discounts vary a fair bit especially with options, different dealers and states.

This whole thread was created to help people arrive at some indication of the discounts others have managed to get.

The Dynaudio is a 1.3k option, BT and MDI probably another 500+? and the base 5 door before on the road costs is already about 50 grand? And given that the R is not included in the driveaway promotion, I'd say the 55k seems reasonable given that discounts in QLD aren't particularly good vs VIC or NSW.

Horses for courses though... If you refer to my prior post, I think that as it was a manual and (quite possibly) a 2010 build car, that would have helped the pricing a lot. A dealer would simply not discount a 2011 DSG R as this was the one that the majority of the market desires. I have a 2011 build GTI and insisted on it once I got the pricing as the dealer wouldn't go lower for a 2010 build car. I know that there are heaps still around - they are essentially 6 mths old+ (irrespective of the old "compliance 2011" argument).

Given the lower pricing of these cars (we are not talking maseratis or even BMWs here), anything 11-12% off is quite good. Which is what I got (12.5% with Corporate Plus).

QLD pricing is probably not as sharp as down south, but once you factor in the (i believe) lower stamp duty and rego, that all washes out in the end.
