The thing is, we can't know, you may already be getting a great price - if the dealer only offered you $14000 for your trade in, but offered you the car for $44500, your changeover price is exactly the same but your discount would be around 17-18%, which is fantastic.

What you could do is tell the dealer you *may* have a potential private buyer, and could the dealer do a better price with no trade in. This will give you a better picture of what discount you're actually getting.

By the way, 8.7% with no corporate discount is still pretty good.

OK I got one quote so far

    118 TSI DSG
    + paint (500rrp)
    + sports package cloth (2000rrp)
    + park assist (1400rrp)
    + everything else (onroads/gst/etc)

    Total ~38,000

    Isn't that _really_ expensive??

    Dze.

So the 118TSI is $31,990 to start with.
    The "everything else" includes:
Dealer Delivery - Typically $2495 in WA (according the VW Australia's price guide anyway)
Stamp duty is $1,571.95 as per here
Rego + CTP is $492.52 (If I've calculated that right from here and here
Plates are $17.90 for standard or $410 for Euro.

So when you add that up, the drive away price is $40,467.38 with standard plates or $40,859.48 with Euro plates.
    Meaning you're getting a 6.10% or 7.0% discount.
    Nothing wrong with that?!
