But by then it was too late, I was on my way to Osborne Park.
    When was this?

Out of curiosity, I did test drive the Hyundai i30 before we bought the Golf. And while I think i30 is a great improvement for Hyundai, I would still go with Golf.

The engine in i30 sucks big time in comparison to 2.0 engine in mk5 (and I suspect mk5 was the benchmark that i30 was compared with in development). The engine was very sluggish upwards around 3000 rpm; so it gets off the mark ok but in-gear acceleration suffers.
Resale value is also a concern. Interior is a bit rough.

So even if $ is tight, I would prefer to get a second hand mk5 rather than i30.

To compare it to mk6 is not really fair for i30, it is one generation behind. I guess that is why it is about $10,000 less. You do get what you pay for.

Yeah. A friend of mine bought an i30 diesel last year. When I drove it, it seemed a bit gutless and the automatic always felt like it was in the wrong gear. Steered like a barge compared to a Golf or Focus, too. Didn't mind the interior, if anything it's better looking than the Focus, but obviously not on par with a VW.
Golf 118 TSI DSG, white with sports pack.

You have lost me with the "fully Loaded" comment. If you mean do I have all options - no I do not as I did not update sound system - not worth it with my hearing. If not, please explain!

    Another one for the spreadsheet:

    118 TSI
    DSG
    United Grey (Metallic Paint)
    Sports Pack Cloth
    MDI
$36500 (no corp discount) 8.3% saving on RRP

And already have a RCD510 to replace the RCD310 for $300ish from a fellow member so even m ore of a saving now to find someone to install it for me.
